The “infamous” Johnson Metallic Gold Jacket - was the most successful (largest selling) promotional jacket Swingster ever produced. (They didn’t create it, we did.) People either hated it and said they wouldn’t be caught dead in it – or loved it and absolutely had to have one. As a result, we sold thousands! However, since it was metallic it did have a tendency to corrode and turn green.

In 1978, at the driver's meeting in Parker, two small stadium-style seating stands were placed, facing one another. In one stand sat Team OMC wearing their gold metallic jackets. In the other stand sat Team Mercury - donned in their silver metallic bomber garb. At the time, it looked awesome - Thanks to Mike Butler, I'm sure!

Tim was so handsome. He hade magnetic personality. HE WAS SMART AND UNDERSTOOD WHAT THE BRIGGS FAMILY MENT TO OMC. I COULD SEE HIM AS THE FUTURE LEADER OF OMC. He was so "Worldly". TALKING TO HIM THOUGH HE WAS MAYBE 19-20 you knew he could run the world. On the way home from the Parker 9 Hour, they ran off the road in a a Colorado Ski area and Tim was killed. I am not sure I every got over this accident. His father, Jim Briggs, had sponsored me personally in 1970. Not OMC Money, JIM'S MONEY!. HE WANTED HIS BOYS TO LEARN TO RACE....Last edited by lars strom; 01-16-2021 at 10:38 AM.

Thanks Ron Hill for your comment about Tim..I met him in Paris 1974 and he talked to me a few minutes. His #30 Scotti-Craft painted in the American flag colors is a memory forever. Sadly the boat did not make it to the end of the 6 hour race. Dont remember if it was Tim or his brother driving when it happened.
