One more picture from the OE World Championship race in Dayton, Ohio 1978.
PS. I think the RS engine is Bob Herings Molinari. The winner of the race.

Finally a proof I was right..!!

Lars, your are correct Jack was not very happy with Renato. Renato did the same thing with the V8, midsection with different shape and magnesium, OMC gearcase but differernt gear ratio! And again, Jack was not very happy once he found out. Renato spent a lot of money to go fast. The steering bars on his boat looked just like the aluminum ones everyone else used but they were hollow titanium. He usually would tell Ric and me what he was doing.

Looks Like Ward Cox in the Evinrude shirt. Ward was the gearcase man. Sitting on the boat next to the sleeping fellow.

Those U Bolt and T Block pulley set ups gave me nightmares about possible failures. I swapped these out for machined clevises and shoulder bolts the first chance I got. Never used these for more than 2 seasons and never sold the ones I used to somebody else.

Forget about 3 point hulls and turbine engines. It would have been really fun to watch this thing run against the Mercury powered TEXMO.

    I want one.
Do keep in mind that even sprint courses were pretty long with wide turns back then. Also with clock starts. Boats were set-up more for top-end than punch.

Well..the OE/F3/Mod 50 was way faster than 100MPH in race set up in the early eighties..Jimbo was using a Molinari..but the Burgess was much better/faster.
Renato (#65) could not in anyway keep up with the Burgess boats at the OE World in Nottingham 1980.
Very tight turns at the 2 point race course at the row boat stadium.
This was Renatos last OE race. John Hill (#52) won.
I was using a Sjoberg boat but switched to Burgess 1981 and won over John Hill at the same race site.

    This is from 1980
