If you look close at the bow of the boat with the 235 on it that is me looking down.

Showed it to my dad he loved it, he reminded me this boat he built to be a copy of the Rotary powered Johnson outboard unveiling of the Rotory engine at Miami Marine stadium. He said Johnson paid him like $5k which was a lot back then.

Yes it was, and my brother was the only one that could fit in it for the photo shoot.

Record was set in a lay-down hydro with a modified stripped down V-4 (rope started from beach) driven by Gerry Walin at Parker AZ.....not a "production" OPC twin tunnel hull. OMC would eventually reclaim the straight-away record with its V8 power in a Karelsen hydro driven by Bob Wartinger at 176 mph at Parker AZ.

Evinrude - Johnson outboards. Facts, history, racing and future.

WE GOT LETTERS – Typically, you feel blessed if someone says, ”nice catalog cover.” In this case, however, we got dozens of letters. Gorgeous! Beautiful! Fantastic! WOW! Apparently, however, they weren’t referring to the outboard since they also asked: What’s her name? What’s her phone number? Where does she live? Oh well, it was a… ‘nice cover.’

    Thanks John Schubert,
Yes Jimbo crashed early in the Paris 6 hour race with the #15 boat. It was 1970 and here is some info in French I guess.
