The demise of the Evinrude brand, might have been a case of incorrect business decisions, by OMC management, marketing and engineering.

This reminds me of John Wayne asking for directions in the movie Quiet Man. At the train station there was no unifying consensus by the co-workers in the movie. Then an outsider comes and rescues the Quiet Man, and takes him to his needed destination.

Apparently OMC did not have that luxury of an outsider Savior.

    Quiet Man - drections please:

Not many of those units were built. When I designed the gearcase I wrote an Engineering Specification which detailed the assembly process and listed the special tools developed to aid in assembly. It is my understanding that all of this documentation has been thrown away.

    Museum Stuff

This last weeks decisions with Evinrude, have made me very sad.
With all of the other craziness going on in the World, it is just one more thing. With way too much time on my hands to “think”....... I have a question. Where or Who is going to preserve the memorabilia from the 1970’s era of Boat Racing? What are the Racers, like Jimbo, suppose to do with the years of memories?? Are there any serious plans about a Museum? At some point there should be a “physical” place. Sites like this page are so good, and I so appreciate Lars for this site, but what do you do with the “stuff”?? Programs, articles, magazines, posters, uniforms, hats, patches, special awards, special trophy’s, interesting burnt pistons and other items that contributed to an era of boat racing that will never be repeated?? The drivers of that era are all getting older and they probably all have memorabilia. Before it all goes in a dumpster, someone needs to think about this. Many of the younger drivers of today don’t understand what paved the Racing Journey before them.....and so much technology. Boat Racing is just like NASCAR...... totally different today.
We tried to establish an unlimited hydro museum in Kent WA. Honestly, I don't even know if it is operational today? Endeavors like this always end up struggling for funding. We as former racers think of the stuff as important, everybody else does not. When I retired 6 years ago, I thought it was a big deal to encase every payroll stub I had from a 35 year career. in plexiglas. The light went on. Important to who? Me??? The stubs went right into the shredder. As far as my racing trophies go, I've kept very few. The ones made of pewter went to metal recycling. Plastic ones went to the landfill. Family members have no interest in my "junk". My prediction is that NASCAR will nearly be finished off by COVID19.

I was geeked to see nascar pick up the ball and hold a race when our government was still telling us to cower in place.
I hate nascar too but told the Mrs, this will be fun, the southern boys will put on a show in Bristol and I really needed a pick me up w/the bull **** our governor was dictating.

My enthusiasm rubbed off on her. We were ready.
    Then WTF?
We turned it off 10 mins in.
Told the Mrs, I remembered why I hated nascar.

I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

I wrote this report in the fall of 2015..that's when I was pretty sure BRP is never going to make Evinrude a world leader again..!!
    http://svera.se/blogg/two-strokes-vs...nd-hand-value/

Two strokes vs four strokes, the market and second hand value

New outboards and used resale value…

I like to start by saying the Evinrude G2 is a good engine but it is a two stroke.
Here in Florida the market is asking for four stroke outboards and the 2015 Fort Lauderdale Boat Show a few weeks ago is a perfect example to prove that.
I was at the main show located at Bahia Mar. Tons of new outboard powered boats all rigged with four stroke outboards.
We were looking so hard for two stroke rigged boats at Bahia Mar but could not find any boats with G2 power. Well..I know there was a few inside at the Convention Center located a few miles away on Seventeen Street.
As a former World Champion Powerboat racer using two stroke outboards I know the advantage of a two stroke but to get in to this argument “two stroke vs four stroke” is no fun if you do not have a “horse” in the outboard sales race anymore.
My outboard business sold over 10,000 new outboards years ago so I know how to promote outboard sales.
One of my friends in boat sales today have the perfect saying about this..
Lars..when a customer is ready to buy a new boat and ask for a four stoke outboard..you do not start to tell him about two strokes. You have him sign the sales contract as soon as possible and everybody is happyWe all know selling a used boat with two stroke power is really hard..does not matter if it is a clean E-TEC or a Merc Optimax..
Boating people in the large boating market in Florida are all asking for boats with four stroke outboards.
It is so much easier to sell a used boat with four stroke power to a much higher price than the same boat with two stroke power.
A brand new large four stroke outboard from Yamaha or Mercury cost no more than a brand new two stroke. Like it or not but down the road you are going to get way more money for your boat if it has four stroke power..Just saying..
