Bill Muncey promotion - The Race of Champions in 1975, at Miami Marine Stadium.

The equalizer race (identical engines & boats) to determine the Champion driver among multiple race Champions.

This format should be periodically revisited every 3 to 5 years for bragging rights. A nice opportunity for the different champion drivers in multiple classes/sanctions to showcase their skills. Sportsmanship against each other in a friendly competition.

How was Seebold selected to make all of the "generic" hulls? Who funded the whole thing?

Seebold built the boats and made a profit.
The sponsors was Evinrude Motors, ABC Sports, Champion Spark plugs and Bill Muncey.
Only World Champions that year was invited.
    A pretty unique race.

My dream to be part of the Race of Champions at the MIAMI MARINE STADIUM 1975.

When I was back in Sweden late August 1975 after the big race in Italy I received a letter from USA.
I could not wait to open it, and it was from Bill Muncey and an entry form for the Race of Champions
    at the Miami Marine Stadium.
If I remember right there was 15 SE Cats rigged with Evinrude 75 hp engines.
The Billy Seebold built boats was prepared the same way and the plan was to find the best driver in the world.
This was it for me, my big dream to travel to the United States and Race..!!
I filled out the entry form with my racing resume and photos.
I was 100% sure to be part of this dream race but after a few weeks I received a new letter from
Bill Muncey´s race of Champions, with disastrous news.
I did not qualify, you had to be a World Champ and there was no World Championship race in the
UIM – SE class back then.
I was now 3 times European/Continental Champion, but not good enough.
I asked Evinrude in Sweden and OMC to help me and they tried, but the answer was still no.
At that time I felt like the whole world was coming to an end, but life went on…………..
    ..and the Race…without me..!!
There must be a way for me to make $10,000.00 in boat racing..Well..it happen a year later..!!

I wonder how Merc felt about Seebold building all those hulls for OMC (Evinrude)? Hmmmm

Hard to say what's the best part of this photo... The striking colors? The great composition? The fire-engine red Evinrude? The ICEBERG? ❄

I suspect that there were several SE drivers around then that might changed the results of that race

    That sucks Lars!
    So sorry to hear that.

    I remember that race well.
Great idea and marketing but tough to pull off.

I was in high school then but also knew the OOC guys would/should rule. Not really fair to stick an unlimited or drag guy in their for a weekend.
Was still way cool to see.

Based off the IROC car race series that were also way cool.

I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.
