Facts about Evinrude/Johnson racing outboards made my OMC

You probably know better, but my recollection of the rumors around the time just before the bankruptcy is OMC sold all their racing inventory and design rights to Sea-Way so it would survive. Then there was some uncertainty or confusion of who owned some of the inventory stored at the Velden shops. Some stayed in Holland and some came back to the US. I heard it was all offered to at least one other dealer as well but Sea-Way stepped up and saved it.

According to Jim Nerstrom, all the OMC race stuff in Waukegan was thrown in the dumpster per BRP orders.

THE only video taken was footage from a race in Provo Utah and the sound of stock outboard engines was dubbed in. Defintely NOT a rotary.

I think that footage is for Lake Carol, Ill. It was part of a potato chip commercial. Johnny Sanders was driving. There is another one with Bill Muncey talking about the rotary intro but again I'm not sure the sound in real. I found it.

Thanks John, Was just wondering in my own mind how the rotory sounded in relation to the V4/V6 and V8....I can only imagine what your hearing is like these days after having to test these things in a 12x12 room!!! LOL

Great question..
If I remember correct BRP refused to help the racing teams with this big issue. One of the reasons the private teams using E-TEC power-heads on the V8 6 inch mid section was forced to give up E-TEC racing..!!
