    IROC Boat Race

    Well WaterZebra,

Of course they used power-trim and if you watch this video to the end you have the answers to all your questions.

I think Jimbo ended up with one and ran it in MOD50 for awhile.

I had a Seebold SE boat but mine was not one the ROC hulls, mine had very different sponson bottoms.

Maybe a few of these became the Jeff Brown fully-rigged packages that were available.

The Mod U and Mod 50 classes ran together that day, scored separately. Jimbo and I won our respective races, crossing the finish line together, but obviously a lap to two apart. Great shot! Mercury and OMC both had something to smile about.

Yes...…..that would explain the full page ads that ran in the APBA Propeller, Powerboat and Popular Mechanics issues after the ROC race. It looks like Jack Leek did the run-ups for the engines. Not sure why this was done with props instead of test wheels. Did anybody make test wheels for SE engines? I was lucky enuf to have Bob Hering make my test wheel for my V6 / SSM Mercs...……..

I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

Bill & Jimbo Together - Kind Of A Dark Omen

Bill and Jimbo were involved in the last era of pre-safety cockpit racing. Bill was killed in Mexico (blow over) while Jimbo escaped near death by stuffing a non-safety cell boat at Sacramento CA in 1985.

    I remember both very well.

I remember Bill saying he didn’t like driving the newer cabovers either.
He was one of my hero’s and probably the best spokesman for boat racing of all time.

I was in shock when he was killed.
To me he was larger than life and would live forever.

Was equally distraught over Jimbos accident too for the exact same reasons.

Neither one have ever been replaced.
