Pretty sure Johnnie Sanders Havasu 1972 winning Scotti although not pickle-forked it also had some 'deck relief' up front...but different from Cesare's shown in these pictures.

Scotti 'Per-PickleFork"
I think Scotti hulls were on only builders who experimented with "Pre-Pickleforks". One of these hulls showed up several years later in the Seattle WA area (Barry Woods hand-me-down to one of the locals here).
Only other time I have seen "Pre-pickleforks" was during the V8 era. I think Hodges, Molinari and Jenkins were trying to get a "front wing" to work. Unlimiteds managed to get front and rear wings to work but they don't have power trim like outboard tunnels do.

I wonder if having the opening in the nose actually shortened the airfoil giving it a more pronounced airfoil shape with more vertical lift...I can't see it giving less lift. I always thought the pickle fork design was to give it less bow lift.

Sad news from Italy.
Italian news sources are reporting tonight that 3 people have lost their lives during a Monte Carlo to Venice speed record attempt.
The accident occurred around 21:00 CET outside the harbour in Venice.
The incident, which happened in darkness, occurred in front of the the ‘Lunata’, an artificial dam made of large boulders which are on the seabed.
The families of the deceased have not as yet been informed.

Assonautica Italiana

It is with deep, felt, sincere pain that we give news of the serious incident happened tonight at the boat of Fabio Buzzi in the attempt to record Montecarlo Venice The middle of about 80 knots crashed on the protection of the Moses of the mouth of port of Venice Lido. Unfortunately for 3 of the 4 crew components there was nothing to do, Fabio Buzzi - in photo - and two english pilots died. Of the only survivor, Mario Invernizzi, you don't know the conditions at the moment. The keepers of the record, among which our advisor of Venice Gianni give, could not do great things for the rescue if not warn the police forces and 118. The boat to impact on the rocks has wheelie and skipped the Barrier, sinking on the opposite side. A serious mourning affects Italian sport and the whole powerboat. Three experienced men, sea and speed enthusiasts leave us in an act that remains part of sport pur in its tragic epilogue. It was so unfortunately for other world powerboat champions. Among these stefano casiraghi and count pietrobelli. To the families, the teams, the fim President Vincenzo Iaconianni and the president uim raffaele chiulli get the deepest condolences from Italian Assonautica.
The President

Had one but had Macdonald at the Naples, FL test station fill them in. I did drive the boat in Parker with Muncey as go- driver. It’s the boat in my Avatar at Parker. Same boat in previous picture with Ron Hill driving.Could have won but steering problems Did finish third. There were 2 others in Waukegan that Jimbo thought needed the slots filled, they did & were the first Rotary boats. Personally I think it was better with the slots. Yes, Sanders was a different version boat, kind of fatter with deeper slots.

Very sad news... An absolutely tragic loss. Buzzi was a true innovator on so may levels. I don't think genius is too strong a word...
My prayers go out to his family and those of his shipmates.Cheers,
