The TV show American Pickers star Mike Wolfe found an Evinrude bicycle in a barn owned by a bike collector in a past episode. He mentioned how rare that make was and that they were well-known for breaking the frame, yet drew the highest prices to other collectors.

A total of approximately 100 were made. That's it. Hence the collectability. Too expensive to fabricate in all-aluminum as they were, and too expensive to sell. It is also known that every single one of them had broken welds, say collectors, and therefore need repair.

    Jerry Ahrens Jr.

I wanted to share with you a few pics of my Johnson Giant Twin TR40. The first racing Johnson outboard. This was a factory ready race engine. Although primitive by today's standards, in 1928, it was the big dog on the water! At 50 cubic inches, it's rated at 25.75 hp. I heard a story about the Giant Twin, saying that one of the Johnson Bros. injured his shoulder on the first one of these engines built. Turns out the original design did not have a compression release valve, that relieves cylinder compression from the stbd. cylinder during cranking. The Johnson Bros. then added the feature for production. The lower unit gearcase on this one is original (and rare) and did not have a skeg from the factory. Many of these broke off, and were lost due to a casting flaw that caused them to fracture, and eventually break off. This one is water ready, one of my winter projects to clean up and go through mechanically. I plan on running this monster this summer.

I seen this vintage photo of race boat # 889 this is some history about the driver.

    MIKE OSBORN
Born in 1939 in Winter Haven Florida, still living in Winter Haven, worked at Cypress Gardens as a tournament show skier, this is where he met his wife Nancy and they are still married to this day. They have 3 sons, Mark, Mitch and Matt. In 1968 Mike was offered a Johnson dealership which we owned and operated until 2006 as it was sold. Mike raced boats in the late 60’s until early 80’s at which time he got into racing motorcycles and purchased a Honda motorcyle dealership which he owned until 2013. Some of the people Mike raced with and against, Jim Hunt, Homer Greene, Jeff Titus, Donny McDowell, Paul Heathman, Jim Neely, he won the nationals in VP class in Beloit Wisconsin in 1979 against Legendary Driver Bill Muncey just to name a few. His son's Matt & Mark raced a few years with and against some of the sons of the people listed. Mike still enjoys going in the boat but has a hard time with his knees from all the years of tournament Ski jumping. Many of the boats were built by him and friends along with wooden boat builder Bunky Bowerman. Thanks Matt Osborn for all the Photographs and Profile.

    Way cool.

I believe his son Matt posts on here but can’t pull his screen name.

He needs to see this wonderful tribute to his pop.

    Way cool.
