Well..in the UIM SE class up to the late seventies there was a rule for a minimum drivers cockpit size (not in APBA SE class) and a minimum length. The engine must be UIM homologated and approved by UIM.
My #99 yellow UIM SE class Clerici above was extremely fast 1974.
85 up to 90 MPH a good day.
I won the European Championship race in Evian, France 1974 and this is a quote from the reporter in the Swedish media after the race..
"The OMC racing bosses Wagner & Tucker was stunned by the speed of Lars UIM SE class Clerici. He was even faster then our OE class boats"

We raced my yellow #99 UIM SE class Clerici in the OE class in Paris 6 hours 1974 (#48 in Paris) because there was no SE class in Paris that year.
Roger Jenkins won in a OE Milesmaster with one of the first real new OE class engines from OMC.
We finished third just behind and on the same lap as Tony Williams in his OE class Milesmaster/Merc 650X
Pretty proud of that. My first Paris 6 hour race.
There was 39 boats in the OE class. Check the entry list below.

Based on my limited research abilities, I wanted to ask here for some expertise. I've found that the 1977 consumer model Evinrude/Johnson 140 horse outboards came with a large megaphone and can performance exhaust system. This "1 year only" exhaust system looks like something out of the race shops. I'm wondering if this was in-fact some production race class requirement wherein parts for race and consumer models had to be the same or if this was an experiment gone wrong.
This information is important to me as I would like to track these parts down for my own 1978 V4 140 build if they deliver. OMC went to a lot of trouble to make these parts work for the 1977 model since they have unique parts for the can, the tuner, the plate, and the adapter (actually block down) to work. Was the 1977 140 a stellar performer over all others, or am I chasing a performance unicorn that isn't worth the catch?
Thanks for your inputs. Gordon

Hi Gordon,
I can see what you mean..
Did lots of work on the 140 HP (1632 cross-flow all sizes) in the seventies, but can not remember too answer you correct.
The part number is also NLA.
Pretty sure John Tiger have the correct answer.Last edited by lars strom; 09-22-2019 at 08:03 PM.

Thanks Lars, I'm checking the old yards for a complete blown 140 of that year. Those parts should have survived since they are internal.
I'd love to hear from John or others on how the 1977 140's ran compared to other years that used that skinny tuner. Gordon

I hope it wasn't damaged in the fire. All those workers subjected to that smoke.

the real story, was that that class, at the time, had a max cubic inch limitation, that racers were attempting to max-out, any way they could, to get around the course.
