What I want to know is why are those European F1 boats so much faster than the U.S. Champ boats.

A lot of boat and engine development has happened. Look at champ and the boats haven't moved on in 10 to 15 years. Even the older DACS etc are making there way onto the US circuit now and providing they are not heavy endurance boats seem to run at the front.

No, my heart is not broken because Erik Stark did not win the UIM F1 World title.
My bigger concern is the only way to win the UIM F1 title is racing for Team Abu Dhabi. (The top three 2018 is Team Abu Dhabi)
Erik was not going to race a full season in his own boat this year because lack of sponsorship.
Team Abu Dhabi signed him up after he won the London GP and another small UIM F1 team is gone.
Like it or not but the Middle East is running our sport today.
    That breaks my heart.

Used to be that the UIM allowed way motor motor mods than did the US Champ Boat version and I think its still the same way.
Last I read the US version were trying to keep the motors even where the UIM let the motor builders go gonzo.

    And budgets as powerbout noted.

I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

The UIM F1 use to be a pure racing class with no limitations. Only max cylinder volume (2 Liter "ON" after OMC stopped racing the V8) Even the fuel was free.
Merc changed the rules to 2.5 liter and now the promotor have his own rules.
You can only use the old Merc V6 2.5 liter. Nothing else.

Well, UIM or not. A bigger question is how to get factories like Yamaha, Suzuki, Evinrude interested to promote their products in the racing world.
    Not an easy task.
