1998 225 EFI Prop Selection
I'm looking to reprop my 2002 Stratos 20XL bass boat powered by a 1998 225 EFI Merc. I've currently got a Solas 15.125x25 prop on there. Currently topping out WOT at about 62-64 mph @ 5300 RPM. I'm thinking of moving to a 24 pitch.
Overall, I am looking for best WOT speed, but I would really like an improve hole shot as it seems like the boat is sluggish to get on plane.
Not really concerned about price as this motor is going to have some work done to it this winter. Let me know if you need anymore info, would be happy to provide.
Thanks!

Do you a plate on the boat . You need a 6-8 inch plate @ 3.50 below pad and rise a 1 /4 inch at a time until you loose water pressure or speed .Then back it down a 1/4 inch and lock it in.
Best prop would be between a 25P Tempest Plus or a 26P

I've got a 6" plate on the boat. The rigging is OK, was going to mess with it more later in the season. Just looking for good prop suggestions at the moment.
Also, where do u suggest setting the hight of the motor at, related to trim? Full down?
Thanks!Last edited by xringmaster; 06-03-2017 at 07:05 PM.

Your rpms are low for that motor. If your Solas is a scorpion it is two pitchs stiff and is actually a 27. If you like that prop you need to go down a couple pitches. You need to get WOT closer to 5800 JMO

Also as said above .Your RPMs are low and you should be able to turn a 25p to 6000 rpms .
Think your max is 5750 RPMs

If you haven't already find a 4 butterfly intake and a 300pro max ignition box and easily up your horsepower to over 250 hp and raise your rpms to 6400.

So level everything out and put the prop shaft 3.5" below the pad? or centered with the pad?
Don't exactly know what you mean with the "adjust motor on plate to pad."
You thinking that fixing my rigging should be able to fix this? Or do u think I need to get a real 25p prop vs this Solas that someone mentioned before was like a 27p?
Know of any good place to get these online?2002 Stratos 20XL w/ 1998 Mercury 225 EFI

No only mercury. The intake is made of many parts. Usually sold as whole. Computer go used for about 300 bucks when they come up. Just gotta look. Post on the parts wanted section, someone will help you. I know we have intakes in the shop but save them just for this reason.

Ok checking at the shop and with Fuller we have a complete 4 butterfly front half, and 250 fuel and ignition computers and will let them go for $500 shipped. That will make your motor a 250 efi, find a 300 promax ignition box and you will be closer to 280 hp. PM me if interested or if you have any questions. Thanks Mike
