Make My CLE Faster
The case has some skeg dings (from the previous owner) and I''ve taken the paint down almost to bare bones. My rig needs lots of lift and it likes to run around 1/2 " deep. First option was to built out damaged areas to original with epoxy/filler and prime; or grind dings and skeg until the damage is out. This will allow me to polish. Also should I fill two pickup holes or leave it alone? Water pressure is at around 12 to 15 PSI so I'm not sure what to do here. How about the skeg leading edge ect? Sharp, airplane wing...what?

Ooops
I meant Dol-Fin. You know the original foil. I really don't think it's stong enouigh as a hydrfoil on the bottom of the skeg.

What about these guys you see sending off perfectly good CLE's to have nose cones put on them? What's the deal with that? More surface area? Does it control or suppress the CLE's tendency to blow out at higher speeds?

No Secrets
Told Liqui-Fly to cut the skeg to a standard V-6 Cut. Works for me..........................
Coning the CLE changes the Length to Diameter Ratio and Aspect Ratio, which enhances laminar water-flow, which will improve prop bite and raise the threshold for blowout. Hull type and set-up determine the overall benefit of the modification.Wayne

I would think that cutting the skeg on Fly's boat would have a negative effect on the performance, his boat needs a lot of trim, and anything that helps keep the gearcase straight in the water is going to aid in speed....a full size skeg, is one of them.
