What if mercury brings out 450 to 500 horse motor in february and possibly lighter then current 400.I would think 1 of these new motors might even be better then twin 300xs.

If your going to drive a 24 skater all by your self with no gas you might justify it as ok but load in the gang with some fuel for the day and the outcome will be much different,

Dan Gatto had his set up perfect and said it was acceptable but not really desirable. He might chime in but I think he ran a best of 96 with all of the stars lined up and a 300X.

Not the cleaver but a 28” max5. (Thanks for the kind words)

My 23’ eliminator originally had triple 200’s. I outfitted it with twin 300’s, then a single 400r. I couldn’t be happier. The 400r is an extremely easy motor to live with, and my fuel economy has doubled. I went 97.6 with it and my center pod had a 0.100” hook slowing me down; I’m working on project “hook delete” now.

I bought Dans 24 And ran it for a year. Put a 300XS powerhead on it and it ran the same as a 300 X motor , just better fuel economy. It was acceptable with two people on board but slow with more and tough to get through the hop. The 400 should take it over 100 miles an hour I would think.
I really liked the large cock pit in the 24 with the seat pushed all the way back. I wish my 28 cockpit was as big.

If by “better result” you mean less fuel consumption, lower maintenance, better cg, higher top speed (in my case), lower drag, better maneuverability, etc, then yes!

I'm about real world tests put 4 people in the boat with fuel and then tell us how it went. Thanks

Funny question for engineermike: Is this your rig in the backround?

I don’t think so but I’m not 100% on that. The triples were long gone when I bought the bare hull.

I’ve had up to 6 people in the boat with full tanks. Manners were great even with the engine mounted high. I don’t generally make a habit of testing the top speed with a large quantity of people on board so I will probably never find out how fast it will go fully loaded. It’s just too much liability
