Increasing HP in a stock '96 Johnson Venom 200hp
Looking to increase the HP of a stock (other than boysen reeds) '96 Johnson Venom.
I have a local dealer that can sell my carbs from a 225hp (same model and year). He says the 225 carbs will turn my 200 into a 225.
Any other ideas suggestions?
Aslo will the 225 carbs actually turn my motor into a 225?
Thanks

Read your plugs when changing parts. Im not sure but isnt there some port differences. Not sure Racer should know. Rick

You will want to get the intake from the 86-90 225, plug your exhaust reliefs and cut the heads for 140psi cranking compresion.

increase compression
Is there an option to increase compression by installing thinner gaskets? Or do I have to resort to milling the head? If so, how much to take off? .020?

Carbs
I belive the carbs were the only difference in the 200-225. Thin head gaskets and plugging the idle relief holes would increase your commpression plenty on a stock motor.Search the old posts from racer and others for tons of info on this subject.

I thought the 200 had the exhaust around 1.80 and the 225 had it at about 1.70, along with the bigger carbs. However, I'm the furtherest thing there is from being knowledgeable about these motors. The more I screw with mine, the more I'm convenced I'm a total dumbass.
If you do the math, it says a stock HO needs about 50mm carbs on it to make full power. Wonder if it would get my big bass boat out of the hole with carbs that size?Keith Jones

Carbs?
Actually the smaller the carbs the faster they will come out of the hole, Just die out sooner when you want top rpms,
TCSSMITH, e-mail me and i will work with you any way, on getting your OMC crankin, there are lots of different ways to do it, I need to know what you are wanting from the engine and how much $ you wanna spend to do it, I have a few of the go fast parts around, also, Know where about any thing else is,
LAKER is right on the money for a cheap fix, It all comes down to how many RPMs do you want,
the 225 carbs AND throttle bodies will help, The best later style stuff comes from a 225 HO but hard to find,
your engine should have the thin gaskets already,

The long block on a 96 200 and 225 are the same. Both have the thin head gaskets already and the 96 should already have good manifolds.
