Unless you have owned it from new you need to check the flywheel matches your timer base

Couple of questions. Should I be checking the spark using the starter or should I be checking it with it running? Secondly, could the stator be causing the problems in having? It's the only ignition part other than the rectifier and coils I haven't changed.

CDI has the center hub arrangement to verify you have the correct flywheel or that hub has not moved. Engine needs to be running to properly check timing and make sure timing lead is clear of all cylinders on engine except the one you are checking. Stator will not cause timing to be off, it can cause weak or lack of spark.

Sorry to revive my old thread. Still chasing this demon. A little catch up... Got the motor going again. Broke it in, but started looking like it was going down the same road it did before regarding lean... Ive taken the entire front half apart and I came across something. I found a rip in the gasket in the (side) of the throttle body On that hole that feeds the suspect cylinder. I know this cant be good, but would it cause a lean condition on this cylinder?
