1997 225 looper new piston, lean or hot?

    Hello,

I had a failure of #2 (lost ring locator) had it resleeved, new piston and new rings all the way around.
Now just before the failure I changed the water pump, thermostats, and plugged the idle relief holes... my mistake was not rejetting after plugging the holes.
Now after the rebuild I have gone up 2 jet sizes (74d) in all the holes (i cleaned up all the ports and casting flaws and added cc reeds) and 4 (76d) in the #2 hole.
I have 120psi in all the holes.
I have followed the break in procedure with double oil.
My question is: when checking the piston tops all the other pistons are very wet but #2 is totally dry and almost looks like it's running warm? All spark plugs are chocolate brown.
    What should I check?
    Thanks

problem is there's three stages of plug wash check-idle-mid-top end,if its leaning out at mid to top, hard to tell without holding at 3000 rpm for 1 min.then check n then 6000 for 1 min. then check.then if its building up at idle u almost need to run at 3000 for 2min.and then 6000 for 2 min.to get an accurate reading, best way is to start rich on all 2 stages of rpm then lean down from there,i know its a pain and expensive going through 2 sets of each size jet for mid and top end,but unfortunately its the only way, most of itll be how it runs throughout the process.

Should have replaced the other 5 pistons as if one fails the others will soon follow...did you do water mod to block??? Need to index flywheel and see if #2 is firing correctly..could be timer base or flywheel magnets..

Not being as smart ass the flow pattern across the piston tells a lot about what is happening. Plug is not showing a lot of heat depending on rpm when you chopped throttle. I too would have replaced all 6. Degree flywheel and check timing on each. Magnets don't cause an issue on 1 cylinder but are easy to check. Number 2 is the hottest running cylinder on that block but if you are up 4 sizes from stock should be good unless you ground some angles wrong.

Is that the block they had with the flaw in it that would wet a cylinder?

Sorry,I posted something (way back 08'ish)about my pistons being washed clean like there was to much fuel. Anyways not trying to start a controversy with al,with him I'd be all ears instead, which is EXTREMELY rare for bigbore.

2 Is lean you need to check carb and timing on number 2. I would also check to make sure you dont have a double fire. Did you install factory jets or did you drill the original? D series? Water temp? I would not be using that silicone, clean dry surface for factory head gasket.
