OPINIONS PLEASE....Pontoon Boat Log Sealing!
Ok Guys, I have a 24 year old Pontoon. It only has 300 hours on it and is basically like a new boat with the exception that the Logs seep water, more than I like.
There is noticeable pitting in the Aluminum below waterline and I found several leaks by pressurizing the tanks.
OK, so I bust out the TIG and there's too much buildup of Aglae on the inside of the tanks from holding years of moisture to do any welding!
My Question is what do you think of spraying the complete tanks with a Smooth Bedliner, w/o the texture???
The company Durabak can be had with or without the texture and in different colors!

JB Weld is definitely good for a hole but we're talking about a good bit of porosity along the length of the tubes!
Buying new logs is more than I want to spend without question!
That Polypropylene Bed Liner should seal anything not to mention it's dang near indestructable! I'm thinking that is the way to go....just paint it on the complete log!!WillySteve Hendricks

What about drag? wouldn't even smooth bedliner slow that pontoon down a bit?
If I don't ask any questions, I'll never learn anything.

We never had much luck at patching but we were in salt water. The price is steep for new logs but the old can be sold for scrap. Anti fouling paint not properly applied was quick death around salt water. Update thread if you use the bed liner. Good luck Rick

What about a layer of glass wrapped too just above the water line? Gell over that and should be waterproof and permanent. I glass wrap alum fuel tanks when I install them under the deck, and have not have one corrode/leak even after 20 yrs!

use the rubberized undercoating in the spray can or if you can find it in bulk roll it on. .....get the area clean as possible....media blast will do nicely.
i have done this with solid results on old toons for duckblinds.

You could order some flexi-seal from the commercials and spray it....they seal a screen door on a Jon boat and float it..haha

That stuff is basically a rubberized poly bed liner. I went ahead and ordered 5 gal of the Smooth Bed Liner today......WOW, $700 but I have faith!!
It's totally water proof, tough as nails and sticks to anything that's prepped!!
I'm coating the logs with a Metal Etching Primer before I put it on!
I'll post a follow up at a later date!
Nothing like having your tubes protected with 2 Huge Condoms!!!!

From what I've found out, for a pair on new 25"x 24' long cans you may as well get ready to spend 3K buy the time they're shipped and under the boat!

Willy the co that makes Marine Tex also makes a brush- roll on epoxy called Gluv-it that flexes and grabs aluminum great. Used it on a aluminum 12 ft fish boat that had leaking rivets that were blind installed. Worked great and boat went well with a 20 hp mota. I would use it with a thin layer of cloth on your toons and you can COLOR it!!! Gary

I have also seen toons repaired with white rubber roofing (EDPM) . The yellow substrate glue is also made to be used with metal. I would NOT trust the coatings you are looking at to be left submerged in water over time. JMO Gary
