His market as I stated before is govt. municipalities and they are looking for something that the operator can't destroy. With that being said, these are an inexpensive option for them. I know you weren't trying to be a jerk, nor was I. He has a ton of money into getting these to the point that they are at and I recognize that side of the picture as well. I wasn't kidding about getting a boat put together so that you can come out and run "nobody is getting any younger".

Diesel, arneson and $25k shouldn't be mentioned on the same thread nevermind in the same sentence.
the answer I gave was to your question about where can you find a 400 hp yanmar for that kind of money, bottom line is a straight 6 diesel making that amount of hp is available.

Joe, I apologize if it seems there is a pissing match going on, but it seems some have to try and challenge me on everything I state. here is a start, I'm going to research the price next, only out of my own curiosity.

I asked what transmission and drive system comes with that yanmar for 25k. The Answer is "none" and the yanmar would be a well used pile. I drive a strait 6 diesel for almost ten years and have been working on them longer then that.

Its 2017 now small diesels make power. The small 4cyl joe bought makes twice the power at the crank that my strait 6 did brand new. That's Almost half the displacement and twice the power.

A "nice" 440hp yanmar $23k 10 years old engine only.

How much is a 300 Verado that will run aground at 2' draft? This is a yacht tenders' wet dream come true.

ID:	371673 Caught Bill's demonstrator rolling down 95. I think some of you guys may have visions of a 1500# Cat diesel in mind. The new lighter diesels are so impressive that VW makes diesels under the Cummins marine brand and they are selling very well. Was picking up some parts for screaming Nicks race boat and had a great discussion about the set up. While it seems like a lot of money, I think it would be the last engine you or your grandchildren would ever buy for your boat !!! Sorry about the sideways pics, cant get em straightened out !!

I work at the airport on ground equipment. SWA runs Deutz Diesels in all their baggage tugs, oil cooled, oil heat for the cab, no anti-freeze in these engines. I always wanted to get one of these 1011 Deutz Diesels in my Ford ranger and see how it would run. With a max RPM of about 2800, that converts to about 80 plus mph. I like this idea of totally enclosed engine and jet drive.

I truly admire the shallow water capabilities if this application, but a neighbor has burn't through 2 units under warranty on regal mini boats w/mercury jet power sucking up mud clogging the cooling system and frying the the engine. graned, he's a boat nurd, but he ended up walking away.

The heat exchanger passages on this thing are really big and I have a temperature gauge-shouldn't be an issue. I have a lot to do before the hull is ready to hit the water and 3 projects in front of it as of right now.

OK, now that you've shown the Allison ready to splash, how 'bout an update on this thing? I've seen where it's at currently, but while everyone is "social distancing" these days, we're all jonesing to see projects completed.

    Post 'em up, JP!!

This has been another project that I have been picking at. I took an original 18 outrage (smallest hull with a big 63 gallon built in fuel tank) and gave it a heavy face lift. Total repaint, straightened the bottom, sides, and made pretty close to perfect with lots of body work. We put a transom from hell in it with massive stringers attached to an additional bulkhead that encloses all of the rigging and provides enclosed storage. Had Doug Wright make a complete new floor insert (400 lb. weight savings) from the original. New gauges, fuel tank all hoses and all new rigging. Console, wood, rub rail, sea-dek, lights etc. all new. This is great intracostal cruiser with crazy range, no draft, and lots of thrust. Looking forward to many dinners on the river and 100 mile day runs with this little rig.

Another project finally running. This is the 18 Outrage that I re-did, added the knee system, and installed the Daytona Jet pac (self contained turbo/intercooled diesel with a jet drive). It turned out pretty well and runs 46 mph w.o.t. which is a little less then I hoping for but it jumps on plane with next to no bow rise. Its quite as a mouse, and different. The motor has stainless exhaust and intercooler that self drain and the C.G. is very low side to side so its a perfect salt water boat.
