Mercury 200HP 2.4 1986 Laser II Prop ?
Hi,
Looking to upgrade my old stock aluminium prop. It's 14 inch 21p 3 blade and turns just on 60mph at 5800.
I thought I might move up to a 22P and go stainless to grab another mph or 2.
Would a 13 1/4 inch 22P Laser II suit this motor ? I see reports that it is for up to 125hp in some places but up to 200hp in other places.
I like the fact that its a 13 inch rather than a 14 .... keep the 2 stroke revving.
Other suggestions or even offers to sell a second hand one are welcome.
thx
Steve

I ran a 26 Laser 2 on a mod 150 without problems in the early 90's.

I ran a 24 Laser as my every day prop for 20 years. Not much lift when surfaced, but It would pull me out on one ski and do 70 mph.

I think that the "even" pitch Laser II's are small diameter (V4, inline), and the "odd" pitch are large diameter (V6). Guys run the even pitch small diameter hub on large diameter cases to get extra ventilation of the prop on takeoff. Supposed to work well as long as you're not planning to surface it...
The 26 Laser II is a popular choice for a Merc V6 on a Hydrostream.Josh Peterson

All good info thanks. There are lots of Laser IIs second hand too, so I think I look for a good one.
So I take it that smaller size (13 inch) won't fit on the V6 shaft ? Or does it just need the appropriate hub kit ?
26 is a big pitch ... I think too much for my setup ... its only a little 14 foot boat but I think with a 26P I'll drop the WOT RPM too far. A 23P might be ok.
Cheers

OK, I'm sold. It's just a matter of what size / pitch. Since I am currently getting 5800 RPM WOT on a 21p 14 Inch aluminium prop with crazy acceleration (twists the boat all around if not careful), I think I can go with a 23P on the smaller 13 Inch prop and probably be at around 5,500 WOT.
That will hopefully get me a few MPH more .. enough to beat the 60mph boats

Old thread but there are a LOT better props than laser 2. I picked up literally 6 mph going to high end prop. Sold the laser for a spare to a dude for $50

I don't think he was looking for the best prop, just a cheap better prop...

Aluminum flexes so go with same pitch and diameter in stainless and you will go 2 /3 mph faster

Just go with a 21 Laser, as Eli said aluminum flex and are way less efficient. A 22 has small hub so exhaust will come over the hub on holeshot and might not be best in your case, the 21 laser will be faster than the aluminum.

I used to run a 25P Laser II on my 17.5' bass boat with a 2.4 200 Mariner. I could turn that prop 6500+ rpm but only ran about 64 mph. Installed a Vance manual 6" jackplate along with a Bob's lwp coned lower (1:87 gear) and a 27P A40 Tempest running about 1" below the pad and can turn the Tempest just over 6000 rpm at 75+ mph with good lift.
