Flipped over and getting lots of bottom work. Lots of strake work being performed to. The tunnel is wide!!!

Wow that tunnel is wide. Guessing the hop zone will be much lower in the MPH range.

Or conversely, it provides plenty of room for a small center pod when rigged with a pair of 300's or a full size pod with a single 400 and still leave plenty of room to pack a lot of air and dial out a lot of the hop.

As everyone knows, the hop comes from the boat not being able to pass the air it is taking in out through the back, because the back is still to small of an exit at low speeds, so the hop starts so it can spill the air. I am working on a way to help get some of the air out the sides with some strake work and hope to minimize this. Also, by moving the strakes, I believe we can take a lot of the hop out. It is harder on these bigger boats to get rid of the hop with full tunnels and that is where we will also be able to have the full center pod option for this hull.

So basically getting the hull to push more air through for it to gain the aerodynamic lift quicker?

The faster you can get it to "lift the tail," the hop goes away. So, we are going to play with staggering strakes and maybe flattening the bottom a little more to help it get the back of the tunnel opened up quicker.

Which would seem to be why center pods help with hydrodynamic lift but it sounds like the negative would be blocking the rear of the tunnel adding to the lift problem. Seems like an interesting balancing act.

The key to driving through the transition zone of a true tunnel is to not approach that area slowly. If a boat starts to transition at 55 mph then be on the gas at 40, make a slight turn as you accelerate and when you straighten it out at 70 or so the boat takes a set. It takes a little time but I have had people tell me that they couldn't believe my boat didn't porpoise "the first one that I have been in that didn't do it". All true tunnels have to make it into the happy zone and its so worth it to be able to roll over chop at speed and not bottom on a center pod.

I think Todd is correct on taking some dead rise out of the running surface at the rear so that it has some more hydrodynamic lift to shorten the transition. I am looking forward to seeing this boat run. Its a narrow running surface and short tunnel so it will never be a big water boat but I bet it packs air and will be a killer in tight lake chop and on river runs.

Not really, I have been doing this since 1992 as a business on my own and did it with my dad before that as a hobby. Please don't take this the wrong way, but I have cut up so many boats and modified so many bottom, that I have a pretty good idea of what it is going to do.

This is a picture from 1995. At the time I was racing a blown alcohol hydros, running shootouts (before there really were shootouts) in a 32' Skater and building drag boats. I have messed with these things so much that my whole life is about these boats.
