I agree. But with a (rebuilt) factory transom I'm worried the weight will be to much without knees.

Good, that adds a lot of strength to the transom. With a delete you really need the knees to shore up the transom. I doubt you’ll have trouble with the factory transom/splashwell design and the extra setback you need. If it makes you feel better, go ahead and add some knees while you’re working on it..

I have used 3-4 inch box aluminum tubing to move the motor back for testing or permanent use , never a problem .
use 1/4 thick tubing at least.Last edited by CUDA; 05-26-2018 at 02:08 PM.

I had a Vulture for 18 years. Loved the boat. It really acts like a smaller boat but then all Hydrostreams do that to some extent. I had a succession of 2.4 200's on it. The boat did 73 mph with a 26" Merc Chopper. Added a Land and Sea hydraulic lift (5" setback?), coned the lower unit, and worked the prop and got the boat to a blistering 76 mph. Tried bigger props but the 200 wouldn't turn them. Still loved the boat. Over time I bought a Land and Sea Variable Pitch Prop and the boat would yank a man out of the water on a slalom with five people in the boat. Put the chopper back on and zoom, zoom. I think the boat is capable of some fast speeds but it needs big setback. I see you identified that. 10" to 16" for sure and it needs big HP. A 2.5 280 or a 300 XS would put you in the 90's. The transom was always rock solid but an engine that far back might need more. Did I mention I leveled the pad? Didn't make a wit of difference at the speeds I was getting. Enjoy the boat. There's nothing like going down the lake with six people relatively comfortable at speed. Did I say we loved that boat? You will too.

Got the final but of body work done and the (hopefully) last of the primer on the bottom. Final hand sanding with 400, tack cloth and start laying color this week I hope and we can flip it again and finish the top side.
