What should the long low spots be filled with? Bondo, fiberglass resin, what works best for pounding the water and not wondering if your patch came off
If I don't ask any questions, I'll never learn anything.

Fun fact Friday. A Vulture is not a stretched VKing but rather a Vector with some changed that eventual found their way to the VKing hull the following year. About 2-3 years ago I had a lengthy discussion with Howard about this and he said that what is on the registry web site is wrong and that they took a Vector and made it 20 feet to get around USCG horsepower limits/ratings and changed up the hull a bit and these changes eventually are what the vking hull was based off as far as core and structural design. Also, if you look at the rear wing area of a Vector and a Vulture, they are the same as where the VKing is more straight as the wing areas come out. Also, the first year for the Vulture was 1977 and the first year for the Vking was 1978. Cant modify something that hadnt been built yet. That is all, back to the build.

Cool..I thought the same thing about it when I read that page at Hydrostream.org about taking a V-King and adding to it to get the 20' in 1977, and the V-King came out in 78...just figured there was something missing.

Depends how deep the low spot is. Need XstreamViking to reply here get you a proper recipe/procedure.

Shallow areas less than say 1/8" no csm needed. The deeper areas I use bits (or sections/layers depending on how large an area) of csm and resin or Epoxy, whatever your using...in layers to fill deep pockets up to a level where I can use a thickened resin "as" bondo to fill small shallow voids or bubbled areas and give a sand-able surface to get smooth and flat. ... jme

Years ago, I used bondo out of not knowing there were better things to use. I don't use bondo for anything anymore... jmo

Really need an experienced guy replying here though. The above has worked flawlessly for me, but the fastest boat I ever had only ran mid upper 80's.

I went to the Hydrostream registry and read what the guy said and `wow, What a loads of crap. He even added details of how they did it. What you said about a Vulture being built a year before the Viking was made proves this writer is full of s#*t.

You can use a cab-o-sil and gell cote mix if the areas are shallow. Over 1/8'' deep use some mat. Bondo is a no go due to it being mainly thickened with talc powder. It absorbs moisture and swells. Pre made fillers are available, formulated for marine use. They have no talc.

This is what I've been using top side to fix spots. Will it work?

Good to know. I'll check and see how bad it is. I know the boat ran good without any quirks before I got it.

It will get done eventually. When you get it to ready to paint it goes fast from there. Patience is the key now. Do it right, and when you buy the paint and carefully apply it, it will all be worth it.

Crawled under and tossed a level on it. Hull is perfectly flat for the last 4' other then a hook at the end of the pad and the sides by that.

Went ahead with the bow light and cleat delete....

Non of us could get our fat ass up to the bow so some Scott brite as a backer and some mat. Today at lunch I'll grind it flat, pit some body filler on and we hope to have the topside in primer tonight.
