    So I've started collecting some parts for this build. Going with a 3 liter carb 225 motor. Picked up an offshore single ram clamp, got a good power head, and a gear case that will need the shaft swapped to 20".




    Need to get some solid mounts, a trim pump, and a 3 liter midsection. I'm thinking for the mid I'll get an opti and convert it over.

    I wouldn't waste the time or money on that engine. Pick up a 2.5 200 carb engine. It will be all the power you'll ever need. That 3.0 is REAL thirsty and heavy and just NOT a good choice for your boat, but that's just my opinion. The 2.5 will be faster.

    Really? The info on the vultures is few and far between but some of the stuff I found said the extra torque was nice on the "heavy" hull. Id like a fast boat but I won't be building a crazy light boat. It will have carpet, rear bench, stereo ect. What kind of bad habits will I have with a 3 liter?

    Fuel burn doesn't really bother me, obviously less fuel would be nice but it's not a big deal at all.

    I do have a 2.5 carb fishing motor with CDM ign also though

    Your boat will never be considered heavy enough to warrant a 3 ltr. You want a light, high winding snappy motor. The torque of a 2.5 is all you will ever need. That 3ltr is good for a cruiser weighing about 3k. It's just not a good application for a hipo boat.

    Your Vulture is not really a heavy boat.

    It's a stretched V-KIng. It weighs 200 lbs. more than a YT V-King ( aprox 675) and 250 more than a standard V-King (aprox 625).

    A 225 PM would rock that boat.

    I have ran a 225 3.0 on my King. (motor in pic) Also run a tweaked 2.5 200 on it. The 3.0 has more low end grunt to plane with a fully loaded boat. 3.0 runs a few mph faster. Run same prop on both. 1.75 vs 1.87 gears. I prefer the 2.5 for the boat because of less fuel burn. On a vulture the results would be similar. It may carry the 3.0's weight better being longer. A 225 hi po is 240 hp. The 3.0 225's are really close to 240 hp....

    I know I've read that the EFI 225s are close to 250, are the carb motors as strong?

    I know it's not heavy in the sense of the term that's why I put it in quotations, just heavier then most the boats I can use for research. I'm new to this side of the boat world and trying to pull it out my ass as I go along. Lol

    I rely alot on what I read here and what y'all have to say. Just not alot of info in vultures in general and definitely not alot on vultures with 3 liters. Maybe it is a horrible idea and I should sell it all off and look for a 2.5.

    Id love a 225 promax bit I'm trying to do this on the cheap. I know that won't give me the fastest boat or even close, but I'd like it to be respectable.

    So far I'm $500 into a hull with a good core, good powerhead, single trim offshore clamp, and a case that needs to be rebuilt.

    Hopefully I'll be sub $2k when said and done. Doubt it but it's a goal. Lol

    A carbed 3.0 is really not a bad motor. Runs strong. It will eat gobs of fuel, that is a fact. 16+ gph at fast cruise. The carbed 3.0's are the thirstiest motors ever. I have run a 225 3.0 efi and it is not as bad, (10 gph) but still more than a smaller 2.5. If fuel is no concern, run the 3.0. The boat will handle it, no problem.

    Like I said fuel isn't a deal breaker, less burn would obviously be better but I won't let that be the deciding factor. The places I'll be able to cruise above 40 are limited around here due to waves and weather. Also the beach we all go to on the weekend is only about 3 miles from the house on the creek.

    My train of thought was the extra displacement and torque will help the boat get up on plane with a larger prop.

    That is a good plan. If trying to stay on a budget, then go for it.

    A running complete motor for sale later on (if so desired) to take the boat to another level of performance, (if so desired)... You will be able to use that $ for whatever your next motor might be!!

    More cubes+larger prop=Fun!!

    Small update, working on fixing a bent windshield frame, made a little progress today but have some more to go. I hope to get it "close enough" for now and find a good frame. The plus side is the boat came with a brand new windshield. Feeling even better with my $200 investment after seeing what a new one cost

    How's everyone bringing new life to there emblems? Thinking of sand blasting them, paint, then lightly sanding the paint off the face.
