    Fibretron information wanted

I recently got a Fibretron ski boat which is a knock off of the 14SS sidewinders
My main question is the boats licensed with a 6 digit number not a proper 12 digit HIN?
The original CG plate is still there but it's so faded you can barely tell there's even writing so it looks like they just put a new one right next to it?
The paperwork I have for it just lists the length and colour, not even year? Lisenced as 4.55m (15'2")
    Actually measures 4.4m (14'6") with a 1.7m(5'8")beam and 50cm (20") transom
    I was told it's an 1985?
Looks like it's got the screws in place for a windshield but someone took it off at some point.
It came with a Johnson 100gt on it even though it's only rated for 75hp.... how concerned should I be with that?

100GT will be fine, but perhaps harder to insure than a 75. People used to get 60 with the 3 cyl Merc triple before GPS.

Do you mean people would put 60hp mercs on these boats or that people were hitting 60mph with 3cylinder mercs? Because doesn't mercury make 40-90hp all with 3cylinder models?
You mention before gps so I think you mean 60mph but how much hp?
It doesn't look like there's a pad on the bottom so I wouldn't be going WOT with this set up but for tubing, wake boarding and keeping up with the mid 90s jetski on the lake?
or should I find an older lighter 3cylinder to work with instead?
The boat is mostly going to be on a small cottage lake with maybe 50 other boats on it so I don't think I'd be able to get up to top speed before needing to turn around anyway.

Just curious. Is boat insurance required in Canada?
If I don't ask any questions, I'll never learn anything.

Not in Ontario where I am
some marinas will require it but if you have you own dock or find a marina that doesn't care then why bother for a boat that's worth at best 4K

Boat insurance is required when you an old fart and don't want to lose your assets in a lawsuit. 60 mph with a 3 cyl Merc 90 HP was a popular claim. Should be possible. My memory is the Fibreton had a narrow pad. It's been decades since I have seen one.

There were two 14' Sidewinder copies in Ontario in the 80's. Or maybe one outfit changed its name. I have a one page flyer on a Capricorn 145 from the 1988 Toronto boat show.
    14'6" long
    68" beam
    450 lb
rated up to 90 HP 3 cyl

Could you post or pm me a picture or 2 of the brochure?
from what I've heard capricorns also had stretched models but no mention about Fibretron ever making any other boat! The TC plaque list "FIBRETRON GLAS" as the manufacturer and "ski boat" as model
