2.4 200 connecting rod orientation question.
I have an 86' 200 that has been rebuilt before by someone else and once by me. This time I took the rods off the pistons without making note of which way the rod was facing. At the parting line at the cap there is a large groove on one side and a narrow cut on the other. Manual says the side with the "alignment bumps" faces up. That happens to be the side with the small cuts at the parting line on this rod. This one goes on the starboard side, problem is, this is the only rod that has these "bumps". Bottom guided 636-8118 rod. Can someone tell me the purpose of the larger groove and which way it faces on a bottom guided rod? Thanks for any help, Scott

all same way.. 636-8118 stamp either up or down... never had a problem either way.

Thanks. I started putting them together after consulting with my machinist. I tend to overthink things at times.
