    Reed cage porting advice please. (pics)

    I know I am probably wasting my time or even ruining these cages. I could get a 7 pedal front half but I want to work with what I have if I can. I pretty much centered and traced the CCM reeds and opened the openings trying to match the square reeds versus the factory teardrop shape. I still need to clean them up with a file and lap them but I'm only doing one cage before I seek advice and ruin all six. Motor is a 2.4 200 with 6 steel sleeves. Heads shaved, cut front half, block decked and .030" cut off the top of each piston to match the deck. No exhaust work. Worthwhile to mess with the cages? Thanks, Scott

    All that stuff will help the midrange so it should pull harder but do little (if anything) for top end.

    An engine is basically an air pump, the more you put through it, the more horsepower. The biggest gains are in cylinder/piston porting, then you open up intake and exhaust to match the increased flow capacity. Increasing flow in a single area will only provide modest gains.

    Remember seeing the comparison thread, modified CCM cages and reeds made the most hp anyone have the link?

    I made a plate to bolt my Erude cages to and put them on a mill and used an 1/8 end mill. Digital readout made them all exactly the same.
