Merc 260 water not flowing out of dumps

Hey guys, this is my first 245/260 motor, has a 4 hole CLE, when I bought the motor I hooked it up to the hose with the proper CLE flush attachment, didn't pump water, shut it down right away, pulled the lower, had chewed up frozen old impeller. So with the lower unit off I hooked up a hose straight to the water pick up tube of the mid to powerhead, ran the motor again, ran for several minutes while feeling the heads (both cool to the touch) but no water what so ever coming out of the dumps( head and poppet )... I removed the thermostat covers, motor has the 260 restrictor washers, I could visibly see water flowing up to the heads, blew through all the hoses to make sure they wernt clogged... I'm at a lose here... should I be concerned???

Somtimes pieces of impeller will get caught between the pump and the top of the exhaust plate. It will let some water through, but will not let the proper volume pass through.

The impeller looked a bit rough but no chucks missing... i guess there could be chunks up there from a previous impeller..I was wondering if it might be a back pressure issue, if I submerged the leg it might build up enough pressure to come out the dumps??... it has factory drilled exhaust above the cav plate..

Some 260 plates that have two dump holes in the bottom of the plate will dump more water than is necessary. Its not to uncommon to have zero pressure at idle, but should build with speed.

Forgot to mention I've got a water pressure fitting drilled and mounted into the top of my exhaust divider plate, tube going from there to my gauge, with the tube unhooked, as soon as I turn on the water I've got a steady strong stream coming out of there...

I think the water goes up the center of the block to the top of the exhaust cover then down around the cylinders and fills the heads back up to the top where some is discharged via stat washers, the rest dumps out the bottom.

Ya I just found a water flow diagram for the merc v6s, I think I'm gonna install a new impeller kit, install the lower and run it submerged, monitor my temp gauge and pressure gauge, I think I might be overthinking it.. if that doesn't solve it I'll be pulling the powerhead to inspect the adapter plate and pull heads to see if anything clogged..

If you are using a 4 hole CLE. Doesn't that have a 1/2" water pipe coming out of it and your 260 mid has a 3/4" pipe in it. Did you make sure you have a 3/4" water pump cover for your 3/4" 260 mid.
Unless a 260 is still a 1/2". I know my 280 mid is a 3/4" and I had to buy a 3/4" water pump cover for my 4 hole CLE.
If I don't ask any questions, I'll never learn anything.

Although I ran the motor with a garden hose shoved up the water intake pipe, it was a tight fit.. and still not coming out of the water dumps so I've tsken the lower unit out of the equation

Just doubled checked and both impeller housing and fixed water tube on the mid are 3/4, the impeller housing fits snug up in the fixed water tube from the mid..

With a water hose on my pipe water flows like crazy out of the dumps.

Sounds like you have a blockadge somewhere, mine will still get good pressure and bad flow when I get gravel and trash in the exhaust divider and water passages as I run in shallow rivers and creeks a lot.

Pull exhaust divider and and heads and see if there is crud in there.
