Wow. Lots of responses on this thread since the last time I’ve had the opportunity to be near a computer. But I’m disappointed in the lack of overwhelming commenting on prop selections. I would not have thought that the performance boating community was so tight fisted with passing along information. I wonder why people are holding their cards so close to their chests? We don’t live long enough to make all our own mistakes and learn from them. It’s better to learn from other people’s experience. No matter…..We’ll get it figured out and then we’ll have some numbers to post and I’ll be happy to share what we learned in the process.

Like TUFFboat said about hulls breaking. I used to go to Lake Michigan every weekend in 21-28' I/O vees. Excepting the occational clam day, I never saw OB boats out there. We broke lots of stuff except kidneys and hulls, but got close. Did put some spider cracks in a few. It is real easy to break something there, the challenge is not to. It was common to stop racing other boats as we could see people flying around in them getting hurt. They used to hook tabs all the time also and get hurt.
If you been in those tight waves you know about them, but some people talk rough water like speeds before GPS. The cool part is Pitbull pulled off some impressive air without destroying the boat, or himself. It is great fun too. Once in a while we would get swells instead of waves, and they were fun to get air off of. I screwed up my back once and lightened up after that. BTW, I would not pick a fountain for nasty water though they are pretty quick otherwise. A properly weighted vee works best if you don't have a long enough hull to bridge the waves IMO. In lesser water the Fountain will go faster....in rough water too depending on the abuse you want. The best one I was in had weight added in the bottom of the bow, and was a variant of one of the original cigarette hulls.
Most of these I/Os ran Mirage props for good overall use. They had clevors for topend runs but they sucked at low speeds. I am sure the OBs do more surfacing, and I'm still learnin' about them here at the best source I've found It was common for us to go some distance to another port, so you would often run something that cruised well like the Mirage.

It's best just to start a new thread and put out there what your trying to do. no body on this board is hording their info. just no need to put it up on every post. if you ask you'll be told wht ya wanna know! I bet somebody here has already done what your trying to do and can help get youin the right direction.

Prop
Yeah those guys might be out on the water right now. Try playing with the search function and you will likely find stuff.
I can't really suggest even, because while the vees usually need a bow lifting prop these ones got so much power they might be into the area of not needing that anymore. And every time I see a pic of a 300 it has a clevor on it...Last edited by sho305; 09-04-2003 at 08:02 AM.

Thanks Guys, I appreciate your comments. I’m a short timer now. My tour of duty is almost up and I’ll be back on the water myself. That way I don’t have to live vicariously through this site. We’ll be trying all the different types of props and set-ups. You Guys are probably right. Tuff boat and I will start a new thread showing the construction to rigging and testing phases of my boat……By the way I did get the info I was looking for via the private messaging system. ..Thanks for that. Safe boating. T

Good call Hoser
I miss this thread, and it begs a couple of questions:
Is there any other 21' SOBs going over 100 besides Herbs indimidator (when it had the 300x) and the baby blue progression (once again when it had the 300x)?
Where has Jerry been? or does he have a new screen name?22' Activator w/ 250xs Merc Opti, back home again
