    Cool The Guitar Thread, 2017!

We've had several Scream And Fly member guitar threads, so I thought we should start 2017 off right with a brand new one!
This is my latest guitar acquisition, and about as 1980s as you can get. Neon pink Charvel San Dimas with coil splitting. It plays so smooth and intonation is perfect. Like all Charvels, the neck on this one is incredible.

And yes, I love the color.

Now that's an 80's metal/prog rock guitar ya got there Greg!

I'm in the process of putting together a Thinline Tele style guitar. I got the body off ebay, it's made of Sawmp Ash with a Red Cedar top. I stained the Swamp Ash a mixture of barn red and fruit punch red. I was going to stain the top too but the stain didn't look good on the cedar so I just left it natural. I clear coated the body with nitro paint.

I need to rout the front pickup slot to Minibucker size and then I'll be ready to put it all together. I have a Lollar Firebird pickup for the neck slot and a Klien Nocaster bridge PU. Got both pickups used off eBay.
I'll post a few pics when I finish it.

B.C. Rich Stealth! Congrats, that will be amazing!

I love those guitars. Maureen had a Custom Shop Stealth made years ago. I remember when I first played this guitar I was so shocked at how light it was. The built quality is exquisite. The B.C. Rich Custom Shop does incredible work. Many of their overseas production models are really good now, too.

Maureen's guitar had a Seymour Duncan Invader pickup. No neck pickup. It also had a fixed bridge - B.C. Rich's "Quad" bridge. I would much rather have had a Floyd Rose but this was the Chuck Schuldiner tribute Stealth so that's the way they were all made. There was an overseas model and the Custom Shop model, but both looked the same. I definitely remember that Invader pickup being brutally loud and compressed. Way too powerful for me.

Lynn, please post some photos when you get the new Stealth. Congrats on that!
    Greg

I have an old Mockingbird that has a lot of those typical B.C. Rich switches. If I recall it has the vari-tone rotary equalizer, coil taps for each pickup, phase-reverse for each pickup, and a treble boost. It has no three-way toggle for selecting the pickups; instead it has two mini-toggles that switch the pickups on and off individually. The rotary equalizer is actually very useful. Normally, I just like a volume pot and that's it, but I was impressed with how useful it is. Only problem is that pot gets scratchy if it's not used. I always liked how B.C. Rich was on the cutting-edge of design.

If it's late 70's to mid 80's American or even a Japanese import of that era it's worth some loot.

I've got a Korean made BC Rich Mockingbird. Changed the pickups to a SD 59 in the neck and a SD Pearly Gates in the bridge. Is the necks the same on the US made Mockingbirds?

Depends on the scale of the neck. The last round of imports from korea were really nice guitars, but the company was sold and now are made in china. The good thing is the us custom shop is back in old hands and they have cut 0rices a c9considerable amount.
