OK, that's 3 votes for the V8 being too heavy for this ride, with me included. I'm currently putting together a 3.0 looper to have ready for the spring. I was gonna put it back on my SK, but I think I'll try it first on the Stratos. I had the V8 on the SK for one river run, it was about 6 mph slower than the bone stock 200 XP 'Rude pushed it.

It's all in Weight to Power ratio! You've seen a smallblock whoop-up on a big block many times in drag racing. Bottom line....200hp in a sled that weighs 2000 lbs or 200hp in a sled that weighs 1500 lbs!!!!
Of course there are other factors but on water, 100 pounds is alot when you're borderline to airing out!!

Agreed! That's why when I re-did the inside of the boat I tried to keep it light. I know it's a heavy hull, I added drains in the 2 outside sponsons and the glass was almost 3/8" thick. I think I'll bolt 2 of my jackplates together and try a 10" setback with the 200 looper and see what happens in the spring.

    180vt rocket

Idk if you still have the boat or not just logged in for the first time in many years.anyone that says they won’t run just don’t know.the 180vt is the same hill as the STV/LTV.but a bit heavier. I built one back in the late 2000s completely restored new stringers transom floor etc. I added one inch to the pad IE “the pad mod” put a 6 inch jack plate and a 3.0L Mariner.added 300 promax intake & electronics, lightened flywheel, cut heads and a coned lower.with no setup time it ran 98mph on gps with a 30 pitch 4 blade Yamaha drag before I burnt a piston and ran out of money.wish I never sold it!

Jim,,the bottom mode he is talking about was 1st done by T REX on his lasers..I was going to do it,but went in a different direction...The laser LTV has an 11inch wide ,slight V running surface..The mode is a 1 inch squared drop starting from the step to the transom...The theory was according to T REX that it would unload the air faster out of the tunnels......I always wondered if the allison pencil roll would have helped overall performance with that mode...I think for drag racing it would have helped...........My top speed at the rumble on the river was 118.6 on GPS.......

I actually sold the boat to a buddy, he was trailering it out to one of our events, when he got sideswiped and ended up rolling his van onto its side at 60 mph. Needless to to say, the boat came off the trailer, and had a ride on the pavement. Now someone bought it from the wrecking yard and is trying to fix it up.
