    Repowering my pontoon boat

Okay guyshere is the situation. I have a 2005 Monark Fantasy 240 pontoon boat (Not a tritoon). Last summer I upgraded from a 90HP merc to a 135 Black Max which runs great but I have stumbled across a 1995 Merc 3.0 Liter 225 Black Max Offshore that I really want. My question is can my pontoon handle that big of a motor or am I asking for trouble? Can't read the tag so any help would be great.

I have searched the web to try and get the answer but no luck.

I saw one site that said 135hp max for the Fantasy 240 Deluxe and only 60hp for the 240 Fantasy: http://powersportsnetwork.com/enthus...1=19475&go2=Go

A number of pontoon manufacturers require that you upgrade to the tri-toon configuration when you go to 150 hp and above. (it could be 175 hp and above, it just depends on manufacturer.) You will also find that an upgrade to the heavy-duty hydraulic steering is also required. Of course, you'll need to be sure you have the largest diameter tanks that the pontoon manufacturer makes. At least 25" diameter. And that the boat is 8 1/2' wide. If the engine exceeds the factory hp rating for that model, you could find yourself in a situation, should the boat ever become involved in an accident. (once your insurance company or police) become involved

I might be better off installing a waterglide under the center to get the additional speed I'm looking for. Just looking to get her up to around 35mph for water skiing. Plus I did wonder if I was gonna have to upgrade the steering. But man it would cool to have a 225HP on the back of the boat.

Have you considered having the planing strakes added to your tubes. I'm considering adding this option to my 18' pontoon to help the boat to plane better when I have 6 or more people on board.
