Is it a short shaft?????

Yes and no...
It is a 20" LU unit with a 5" spacer on a 15" mid. Like Mercury used to do years ago on the V6 motors to go from 20" to 25". So right now technically, it's a long shaft.
Honestly I've never seen a spacer on an IL like this before.
IF i can get the LU apart, I'll see which pinion gear it takes, fine spline or coarse and get a 15" DS, and loose the spacer. This will (maybe) a good time correct motor for my Vector.
Ran the serial number and it's not the XS.......But it will be fun restoring this, IF it comes apart...
Bought it today, picking it up Saturday.
Thank You FUJIMO for posting this.

Good to see someone got it. Hope its at least a J-block & a usable motor & rebuildable. Bay Manufacturing in Milan Ohio is who Mercury "was" getting all they're extensions from, for many years. Don't know about recent years. Think they are manufacturing many of they're own these days. Bay sells the short extension splined driveshafts to anyone also, if anyone has the need. www.BayMFG.com

I have bought several of them over the years with 5" extensions on them. A couple times they were 16" ( they were never 15" on a production inline) with a driveshaft extension so you never know until you pull them apart. This is a great deal. The mid alone is worth $500.00 - $800.00 all day long. Then you have a louvered cowl along with it.

I will do that for sure.
I am in the middle of my V-King restore at the present time. Also have my PM 225 completely dis-assembled for a rebuild. Gonna need to get this one finished first. So it will be a bit.
Thank you.

Picked up the motor this weekend. I have to say it is in better shape than the pictures show. And better than I expected.
$125.
Fresh water motor, Doesn't appear to have any dysfunctional rusted out parts. Carbs are oxidized some, but should clean up. It's just dirty as can be, like the cowl was off for a bit. Mud dobber nests all over inside and cocoons everywhere. All wiring and fuel lines are fossilized and falling apart.
I pulled the plugs, they look good, peeked inside to see the tops of the pistons...all good from that angle anyway. Motor spins over easy with no flat spots...
Guessing it is the J block, albeit the J backwards... ?
It's all there and didn't see any leaks in the PT lines either, Pump has some external rust. Even came with the Blue Merc Controll.
It will make a fun project none the less. I think this might just find it's way to the back of my Vector
