I've been a confessed mercury geek all my life (now 60 years). I can easly tell the year model of any Merc, just by the decals.

My dear old Dad often use to say to me: It's a crying shame you couldn't/wouldn't learn your school work half as good as you know Mercury outboards.

I still have a set of 72 or 73 1150's and a set of 70 1350's in the box. Not sure if they would be any good to use anymore.

I checked with a lab engineer over at 3M, and while they may stick initially, there's no telling how long they will continue to.

"Maybe it will stick. Maybe it won't. If it does have some initial adhesion, no way to know how long it will stay in place or how long the metallic face will last.

3M Hi Strength Spray 90 would likely hold it in place but it won't remove cleanly."

From my own experience with a metallic vinyl that was quite old, the adhesive initially stuck to the surface of an old sign, but 24 hours later, it loosened off, especially around curved surfaces. Spray 90 will hold it in place, but be careful not to let any get on the face of those decals - once it goes on, it's on for good. Read the Product Data Sheet before application - you can google that.
