I started with WH-22's because I was told they were the ones that made the best power and were easiest to setup. I have thought all along that a newer technology carb would have to be a better option for someone like me that uses their boat to fish more than run up and down the water at WOT, especially when some of the lakes I fish have long no wake zones.

I haven't had to change an idle jet yet in a wmh, have always used the mixture screws. I actually prefer carbs compared to the laser injection. WAY cheaper, easier to work with, less to go wrong, and no rev limiter. U may give up a little in acceleration but top end is close,if not the same. Keep in mind also the early wmh were "pumper carbs", they had an accelerator pump like a car had, and this effected jetting as well, take a look at the charts. I don't feel that they are worth looking for, as parts for the pump system are nla.

I have heard quite a few people express their displeasure at how well the pumper carbs worked, or didn't work as it were. Dave said the ones on his 245 didn't even have the passages for the fuel to leave the pump chamber. I just installed the WMV-18's on mine again, I think I will keep them and work on fine tuning the jetting on them. I would love to have an injected engine, but like you said there are too many things that can go wrong with them and there is the expens, although George Fuller has a Laser injection from a 98 200 he quoted me what I think to be a very fair price. I may sell all my carburetors and extra jackplate and some other things I have laying here so I can get it in case I decide to build another boat to play with or just want to try my hand at EFI life a while .

wmh 47 off 3.0 225 hp does bolt on to 2.5 carb plate ,use linkage from 2.5 , top bowl on wmh 47 has a big fitting for enrichener so unless i can neck it down i can use bowl from wmh 39
    back draft .70
    idle .48
    off idle .60
    mains 1/2/3/4 .78 5- .80 6-.76 the venturi is somewhere around 1.465 compared to wmh 39 at 1.315
so providing testing in spring to see where final jetting, back draft, and so on will be should make my 245's romp

Thanks eli for that info. That 245 should scream if you can get the jetting correct. With that much increase in venturi diameter do you think it may be a little lazy down low and start coming on hard as you climg up top?

my bottom was always lazy so unless i ran 24/26 pitch i,m thinking these are more suited for the hp the throttle blade has a much bigger hole in the 47's vs 39's i,m betting mid and top will be better ,now we have 6 months to wait and find out
