    Beautiful work so far.

I get a kick out of the difference in finish between the race boats and restored race boats.
Some believe if you make them too purdy, they'll never run!
I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

well this boat has obviously seen its fair share of dents and bruises. When I leave the sponsons and bottom only clear, you will be able to see some of its history and heritage.

Just a side note- I have conclusively identified and spoken with the original owner and person who raced this boat. Got a full history on it . Cool stuff.....

Don't want to start other conversations and let this thread go off in the weeds. In summary it was imported from Austria by Mac McCune in about 1971, raced with Super strangler for 2 years, then a Merc Twister 1. Never wrecked or flipped. Mainly in the northwest part of the country.

Port side sponson repair done and everything sealed. Ready to make deck templates. Added ventilation holes in the cockpit walls, added additional deck stringers where you enter and exit the boat as well as fuel it, added vertical deck support ribs support. Hopefully it will last a few more years. Added maybe 5 pounds to the boat with extra reinforcements.

Tom, you are becoming quite the carpenter! Do you like it better than glass work?
    Good luck-

    Been there, done that.

Also similar to redoing an old interior full of rusted staples.
