Evinrude XP200 Rebuild or Repower
I went through and replaced most of the engine components last year, VRO pump, Optical sensor, power pack, rebuild carbs etc. and now I have a decision to make. The powerhead is original with lots of hours on it, do I repower with a used Etec 2008-2010 or have the powerhead rebuild. I have always wanted a 2.5 280 Merc on my stoker but I gotta tell you my rude has lasted a long time untouched. Boy those 2.5 280 are $$$$$$$$ Has anybody put a etec 225ho on a stoker and has anybody used MontyRacing on rebuilds, I am leaning towards the rebuild on my Stoker 20.1

That 280 is not going to be as robust as your current engine. The 280 will be expensive to get into and maintenance items are unreal. Monty can make your current engine close to 300 hp if you want.

thanks for your input, I am going to have Monty rebuild my XP200 and try and hit close to the 300 mark. My powerhead is tired by it still runs like a champ.

i would not go that far 300 hp ,i would try for 250 or so and still be sane ,as 300 might be little too far for every day motor

300 hp is easy peasy.
Done right, which Gordon will do, it will be near bullet proof if proped and cared for properly. A 300 looper will destroy a 280 everywhere but up top and there it will scare the **** out of one.
And for the price of a set of 280 pistonsI'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.
