SeaStar Hydraulic cylinder NEW IN BOX

Hey guys - I need to pass on this new SeaStar unit. It just will not work without major modification on my inline six, but it is prime for you V6 guys. It is new in the box with instructions. Part # HC5345-3 This is a $500 unit on eBay. $350 plus shipping.

Yes, John Tiger, you were of course right. BUT I will have hydraulic steering on the Viper, you will see! Wish me luck... .

REALLY. I looked and looked at it today and was thinking the same thing, but it seems to me that it would blind as the steering tab turns through its full arc from lock to lock.

Nope. Figures I just packed all this stuff away for winter, I might have a picture of it. Took a couple hours to make them once I decided on what materials to use.

Damn. I may hold off until I see your solution. I found a different set up that mounts on the end of the steering tube and will work fine but is does look a little funky. BTW Captain, I failed you. the guy with all the speedmaster units does not want to sell anything.

Tell him I don't want his oil leaking, pitted shafts, burned out gears and rainbow colored bearing piece of crap anyway . Yea, that's what I made were the mounts that go on the ends of the tube/ shaft pin deal. Worked as advertised. I had to use a longer tilt tube to get the jam nut to work right to take up the slack. I think I scammed that off an old dual rack adapter I had. Then I baked off the deflector on #6 and had to put the v-6 on anyway. It was nice having hydraulic steering on an inline for four hours anyway lol.

If I had to do it over again I'll just cut the stock sea star arms and extend them. I think they need to be an 1 1/6 longer.

Thanks Captain. We don't need no stinkin speed monsters.

I have a buddy who can whittle anything out of billet. I'll go back to the drawing board.
The other option works pretty well though. I'll try to post pics later. Hitting the road tonight to go close our lake shack.

I've decided to go with plan B. I can make this work but not without paying a machinist. $350 plus shipping is better than you'll find on eBay. Thanks

you don't need a machinist to mount this system, you just need the old style dual cable ride guide mount similar to the picture with the cable, to mount the cyl. to. I can't find the merc part # but that is what I used for my twins and it works great

I spent some time searching for that steering tube but had no luck. I did find the dual cable hardware but that kit doesn't include the tube. If anybody has one they are willing to part with please let me know. I do have one question. As the motor turns from lock to lock, the steering arm and the attachment point travels through an arc. Since the cylinder moves linearly, doesn't the steering tend to bind? Those motors are beautiful. I would love to see more pictures of them and the boat!

I looked for a while today also and cannot find one or the part #. as far as the turning thru the arc I have not had a problem. the mount on the ram swivels to roll the whole cyl. back when turning full right or left. For the part I would go the Inline 6 Mercury Outboard group on facebook and ask, somebody there has one somewhere or at least knows where to look. I found mine on ebay a few years ago.

a couple of pics. you will not be disappointed with the hydraulic steering, no torque at all trimmed out and wound up! I will get you a picture or two of the steering set-up so you can see what I am talking about.

OK, I did not think of that. This all makes sense now. If I can find that tube I'm good. THANKS

Thanks. I did find these pictures and a couple others you posted a while back. Hopefully I'll see and hear this in person someday. What a cool rig.
