Exclamation Just Posted: Scream And Fly Tours Bob's Machine Shop!

Factory Tour of Bob's Machine Shop - click here

In June I visited Bob's Machine Shop, which was a really fascinating experience for several reasons. Many of us, including myself, have owned components from Bob's Machine. The Bob's Machine jack plates are so ubiquitous, that the very word 'jack plate' almost always conjures up an image of the classic Bob's Machine Convertible MJ5 manual jack plate.

Aside from its rock-solid reliability and strength, what made this jack plate so great was that the outer brackets could be reversed, to provide two options for setback; 2.5 or 5 inches. They never failed in use, and never jammed due to the design's elegant simplicity. To this day, my boat has the heavy duty version of the MJ5, which is rated to handle up to 300 horsepower.

I think almost all of us has owned (or still owns) a lower unit with a Bob's Machine nosecone. Those remain one of the very best performing nosecones and have set the standard for decades. I remember we used to actually cut the tip of the nosecone off the Mercury CLE case (predecessor to the Sportmaster) and install a Bob's Machine nosecone on them, which would increase the performance and blowout resistance of the CLE dramatically.

I hope you all enjoy the feature article and photos - click the link below to read the article, or just visit the home page.

Being I have my own small business. I like it when i see other peoples small businesses in action. It makes you want to support them even more over the big corporate monsters producing the same parts. Looks like they put a lot of love into their work.

It also helps to understand why you don't see these advertised on all the discount marine sites with a stupid $2199 list price crossed out and a $1299 "sale" price. They offer a quality product at a fair price and don't play the discount game. I wish more companies worked this way.

    Very nice read.

I recently received my Action series and I am very impressed with the build quality.

Also, I had some problems with the shipment (UPS..) but BMS customer service was very helpful and solved all problems (within hours).

Thank you everybody - I'm really happy to see that you all enjoyed the article. I knew going in that this would be fun, and it was. There is so much to see in the BMS factory, and just so much happening at once. The Pelinis are incredibly nice people and they value the community here at S&F. That's the kind of company I like to support. I can ask about a possible S&F discount for members.
