Differences between 1995 2.5l black max xri 150 and 175

Dumb question I guess but I have read a few places that try to identify the differences between the two motors and I am just curious if there are basic things I could bolt on that would make it similar to a 175...

    1. Reeds
    2. Fuel mapping
    3. Remove extra long tuner

People have talked about porting being different is that just the tuner?

Sorry if these are dumb questions its just a fishing boat and I have been thinking about tinkering and learning a little.

Reeds will be the same. Fuel map likely a bit different. Definitely a shorter tuner on the 175. Most likely the ports have slightly different locations and/or sizes and shapes. Then again some motors are nothing but compression and timing. Ports are located in the cylinder walls and have nothing to do with the tuner. No questions are dumb when you are trying to learn something. Good luck.

What kind of performance gain are you needing..? Little more top mph, or more pep mid range, hole shot take off..

    More curious then anything...

I have ProCraft Super Pro 180 and it currently has a 25p Lazer II prop... People have been saying in the bbc setups that im setup wrong but I am not sure they realize there is a difference in the super pro and the regular bass versions.

I don't really feel it needs anything major but have seen some info on the exact boat with a 175 pushing a 25p Tempest and having really good results and was curious how hard it would be to modify my motor to reach a similar hp since I have access to that prop. I read a bunch about the motor being mostly a neutered 175 and thought there might be a quick fix that wouldn't be to risky to the motor... if not it performs pretty good as is

    Appreciate the information!

If you are running it hard and since it is an older motor, I would suggest a set of fiber reeds for peace of mind. The metal stock ones will take out your motor if they fail. They don't last forever....Might be a little better runner too. Chris Carson Marine has them. Good guy to deal with..

I had the whole motor gone through recently... had a metal oil pump gear put in, cleaned the fuel injectors, voltage regulators, put in bobs motor mounts.

Not sure if they would have looked at the reeds or not? what would the reeds do for performance? Would it risk hurting the motor at all?

As for running it hard its just a bass boat but its pretty fun to open up

    Thanks!

All I can say is, it's not IF they are gonna fail. It's when. How many hrs on the motor? I run chris's fiber reeds in a couple of my motors. Run smoother and may have a little more pop. Easy to install and not real expensive either.
