    Why?

    My question is, I hope, relatively simple. Why is a BB Chevy using a 4.25"-4.5" stroke is able or capable of spinning 6000 RPM and above, where as a BB Olds doesn't like or want spin above 5500 RPM?

    Built Olds can split the block. Can spin bearings. Can crack the crank. But, they can also fly at slightly lower revs. There are plenty of Olds that run

    Weak block, nodular iron crank, and large bearing journals which leads to super high bearing speeds. Not to menshion limited selection of poor flowing heads. That being said you can make well over 800 NA hp.

    Except used jet boats with them in there

    BBC is like 383 Mopar and 283/327 Cheby, they will spin and then some. They love to buzz. They are happy puppy motors that are always waiting to rev. Others not so much ...

    Now....the '65 to '67 425 Olds likes to rev. Same bore as 455 but shorter stroke, steel crank, studded rockers....good platform to start with when looking to build a Big Olds. Much more selection of heads and speed parts available now. I believe a company called something like "rocket performance" manufactures a super strong aftermarket block now as well. It's all out there for the legit hard core wrenchers.

    The 425 also had larger lifter bores and a different bank angle. The longer stroke 455 will turn rpm. All these motors in hipo use could use a main girdle with oil passages modded to use the oil down low.

    The small block diesel 350 is tough block. Can be bored 4.125 and accepts the big block cranks for big cubes in a small package. The earlier small block 330 has a forged crank, can be stroked as well. The small block 403 has the largest bores from all , big or small block . A couple thousand were trailer package wagon big car motors that didn't have the windowed main web. With proper build this and the 330 crank puts out a good punch.
    I heard of these blocks modded to accept the big mains of the big block crank like the 425 crank.
    Yes I've heard of a new aftermarket block.
