New Apricot Viper - So HAPPY

I just returned from a trip from Maryland to Wisconsin and back (1,957 miles) to pick up a 1977 Apricot Viper. I took a leap of faith and bought the boat sight unseen. The pictures of it were beautiful and I had great conversations with the seller, Travis N. Upon seeing the boat in person it was everything Travis said it was. He is a stand up guy and a man of his word (that's him in the pic). Dealing with him was a pleasure and I'm glad to have made a new Hydrostream friend.

The boat now sits next to my red 1977 Viper. Both boats were built in January 1977, 119 units apart, the red one first. Unfortunately I can't keep them both so the red one has to go. It is list in hulls under 20'. The 1977 115 Johnson on the Apricot boat will also be for sale. It is a low hour fresh water motor with power trim, all original OMC gauges, 2 tanks and controls. Compression is 135 on all 4 cylinders. it will be hard to find another original motor in this condition. I will be listing it later this week.

A 150 inline 6 Merc be the new power for the Apricot boat. Needless to say I am very excited. I hope to meet some of the other Apricot Viper owners such as Sonik (Jeff) and participate in the Hydrostream community. And it's so cool when your kids get it too.

Well I am no expert, but if I am reading the HINs right (using the decoder on the Hydrostream forum), the red one is #648 and the Apricot is #767. Both show the year/month as 77A (1977, January). Maybe somebody like JTigerJr. who worked at the factory (I am not sure what years) could speak to how many boats they were banging out.

That is a really nice power package that is vintage correct but it is still fun to fly these little things at 100

Well maybe if I'm lucky one day we can meet and you can give me a ride. I would very much like to own a 225 ProMax someday. I think it would be great on a Voyager and I can tell the wife it's a family boat.

It's a LOT more fun with an inline.

I wish I owned a short shaft. I have 2 150s that are both long shaft. I did pick up a nice Bob's hydraulic plate new in the box for $500 that I will use. I have my eye on a 1500 XS, but I have to sell the red boat and the OMC to pull that off.

Good luck. My old eyes thought that was a shorty on the red one. I enjoy mine just fine with the 1500, but I'm no young gun anymore, lol.

Well I'm an old guy with young kids. It's one thing to risk my life, but I'm going to put them in a 15' boat and go 100. I'll be very happy with 80. That long shaft motor on the red one ran 80 (GPS) on Vector with a jack plate and 72 (GPS) all the way down on the transom. Thanks go to the XSKid for that motor.

After all these years I don't remember exactly how many boats HSP built each year, should have written it down when I worked there. But I do remember that those years (1977-1980) were really big production years, and certainly 121 boats in a month was not out of the question, especially when you consider that they built over 1200 boats in a year's time in 1978 and 79. As I remember 1977 was well towards 1000 if not over it slightly.
