200 EFI oil injection gear stripped = block off or tear down.

I just bought a 200EFI. The powerhead has perfect compression. The cylinder walls look perfect using a bore scope, sadly the oil injection gear is stripped badly. The previous owner said he ran the engine on premix for a few hours. I removed the oil pump and the gear to peek inside the block with the scope. There appear to be lots of nylon bits and shavings. My question is can you get away without tearing down the motor or is this just wishful thinking?

Normally when the gear strips and they bring the boat in and put in the injection delete kit they are fine. Never ran across one that the they kept running with out pulling the pump. A bit of plastic would not be an issue, not sure if the whole gear was peeled off.

Thanks Dave! I scoped the gear again and rolled the engine around. I'll post the video later today. I'm on the fence about it. The little voices inside my head are arguing with each other.

If you put in the the driven gear delete plug, you will be fine.Never seen the inner gear being tore up cause an issue.Lucky the op caught it before damage was done. There are tons of them running around like that.

IF the crank isnt discolored (look for heat lines by pulling top cap) put a block off on it and call it good with premix, OR tear down crocus the crank replace bearings and oil system.. ( figure a G to fix yourself) and run her like you stole her

I just rebuilt one that was DESTROYED even the brass bushing was TOAST as well as the nipple that the bushing aligns the gear to the crank gear, and it took a bit to get right but its as good as new on a complete rebuild .015 over on all 6, new EVERYTHING and it cost the customer just shy of 5500.00 to do all new crank 6 rods, all 6 piston, complete oil system. complete service of fuel system, injectors cleaned, etc.... in a 3 day build turn around from tear down to reassembled so it can be done... a new PH from merc with freight to make same deadline would have been about 1200.00 more when everything else external of the block was taken into account... injectors, harnesses, oiler, driven gear, sensor bushing etc..
