Speedo Pickup
Hello.. new to the forum so not sure if this is the right area. I broke the pickup on my speedo and have not been able to find a replacement. It's off a '77 Sidewinder with an '89 Merch 150 XR4.
I can't recall who made the pickup but I have attached a couple of pics. It uses a slide-in bracket with a pin.
Thank you very much for your help..
Safe boating..

Frankly I'd remove whats left of it, seal the holes and get a GPS...

I had a Nordskog (sp) on one of my STVs and the bracket on the left is about exact. Mine had one near the bottom for use and one sitting sideways above the water line. Previous owner did it for racing stating the pickup drag would slow him down which I have no doubt it did. Therefore he had a place to attach above water line for racing. The piece on the right that is broken looks nothing like the Nordskog pickup however but you are replacing that part anyway. I would look into what they offer as a replacement. Good luck and welcome to the site.

I have to say, I don't miss pitot speedos for a second. They were a huge pain in the ass and usually not very accurate. Right now, there are literally hundreds of Garmin Nuvi 200 series GPS on Ebay for 25 bucks or less and that's the way I'd go.

Could not agree more Pete. I bet I've tried 10 or more different brands and designs and they have one thing in common, they break. The Nordskog and Gaffrig were amazingly accurate right up till they pegged. Most others not so much.

No. I have a very expensive custom cover for mine(I stole a sandwich bag from my wife)
I figure when it gets soaked and craps out I'll chuck it and shell out another 25 bucks.
It should be noted, these units were designed for cars so they won't be worth much for marine navigation, I recommend it only as a speedometer.Living in the Freedom provided by Bud Conner and his fellow warriors.
