I appreciate the suggestion. I'm kind of new to high performance boating. I'm not used to having so much boat out of the water when running and all boats I've had up until this have been pretty much no worries even at full throttle. I've had a few fast boats but nothing over 60 mph before. I was told that the sporty wasn't the best match for a V hull like my 24 Superboat because the sporty gear case is not so hydrodynamic above the bullet and you want more prop in the water with a V hull to produce more lift. If I was going to stick with the Promax engine I was going to try switching to a conventional gear case probably, but I was too curious about the G2 and liked the idea of a 7 year warrantee.
I had spend just enough time with the previous engine and steering to learn how to use steering input to calm the boat down with the wind on the quarter, etc... Someone did tell me that the Evinrude G2 engine isn't a good match for high speed applications because the mounts are too soft I think he said? So I heard both sides of the story. Now that I've been having a bit of trouble getting her to calm down at top speed, I'm curious to hear from other G2 owners with high speed applications.
And to follow up on the weight question: I wonder what the real weight difference would be between my 250HO G2 and a comparable Mercury all rigged. Not too curious about that now since I just bought a new engine, but do think it matters for light go fasts. Just wondering now if the boat might be chine walking more because she's a bit back heavy, don't know if that plays a factor when trimmed out and wide open...

I didn't get to spend much time with it in the late season. I got 69 gps with a 24P Bravo 1, but didn't get much of a chance to play with the set up at all. I also ran a 26P RX4 and, honestly, was disappointed: only added 2 mph GPS and lost 500 RPM. But, I only got to play with it for a couple runs.

Nice vid! I have to get some video of me running too. Ironically I started with a well used 22p bravo 1 also, I was turning up to about 6100 so I ordered a brand new 24P RX4. If I remember correctly I'm turning around 2600 now and I've gained about 2 mph. Same exact experience. I'd say my drop in RPM was at least 500, maybe closer to 600 if you average out running wide open in different conditions.

Because the Merc Racing 300xs and 250xs have solid mounts, SM lower and are quite underrated, they are hard to beat in that range. If you're comparing the G2 250 HO to a regular Mercury 250 Pro XS, I'd be more inclined to go with the G2, integrated steering, optional colors etc. and the 250 HO is putting out a lot of power. It takes getting used to but looks really good.

Yes. I was just joking around... it looks much nicer than anything I own.
