Opinions and advice please 27 foot fountain fever?
Guys,
I went to a poker run event near my home in SC over the past weekend and "got the Fever" (pun intended) for a boat that rumbles a little and looks cool. I used to sell metal to Fountain back in the 90's up until they got bought out. At that point the fuel tanks went from aluminum to plastic among other cost cutting measures. Anyhow, my point is that I am familiar with how well made the boats were back them.
My question is this... If I guy were to buy a$25K to $35K Fountain 27'/29' single engine boat, am I buying a bunch of trouble/expense? I own 5 boats now, that are all toys.....kneel down hydro, 81 checkmate with 115 tower of power, 96 Lund for fishing and water skiing so I know boats. None of which cost anywhere near the money of a Fountain so I am trying to get some expert opinions. I know they can break down, and that it costs money. I just was surprised at how many of these boats are for sale on the internet and I am wondering if there are problems with the Fountains at that age or if it is mostly folks that got in and want to get out.
I haven't owned an I/O for a boat like this but my impression is that they are generally reliable. I would also think that I would be better off getting an EFI version vs the carb.
Thanks to all for any advice/past experiences shared.

I have had 3 fountains in the past "ranged from 89 to 96" and my dad had an 88' 29 with twin 365 hp mags. All of those boats were good other then my 42 didn't like bravos and the motor combination that I put to them "B-maxs solved that issue but it was a pricy conversion". If you are running fresh water and the boat has a fresh water past then you're chances of being able to maintain the FUN in boating will greatly increase. However, if you get a salty dog, the money that you will spend to chase it will outrun the cost of all of your existing boats combined and you will end up frustrated if not mad...I have watched friends go down that path due to the initial cost savings and its a bad move.
