2000 Mercury 250efi loud constant alarm
I took the boat out yesterday and a loud constant alarm went off. I looked at the motor and it had a good stream coming out of the pee hole. It's a new boat to me. The temperature gauges weren't working but after tapping on the temperature gauge it started working and was at 150. After a few minutes the constant alarm went off. I headed back to my lift and as I was putting my boat on the lift the constant alarm came back on again.
When thr the alarm first turned on the motor wouldn't go to WOT. It wasn't a beeping it was a very loud constant on alarm. Do these motors have inky alarms for overheat or low oil? Is the constant alarm an overheat alarm?Last edited by speedthriller; 06-20-2016 at 10:36 PM.

Might be water in fuel. Filter on motor has a sensor at the bottom. Un plug it and see if alarm stops. Also pull the filter and maybe change it if not done lately. No oil flow from oil pump also gives constant alarm. Is motor smoking?

common problem with this motor is the check valve on starboard side of motor that supply air to oil tank in boat to push oil to tank on motor.

it really wasn't smoking that I can remember. To be honest I didn't drive it too far after the alarm and didn't really notice whether it was smoking or not. I did a compression check and both motors and they all were within 10psi of each other.
