Help! State Farm Saying 300HP Too Much for Liberator 21!!

My agent just contacted me today saying that underwriting is claiming that the 300XS I have on our Liberator 21 is too much for that boat. I don't think I've ever seen one with less than that. And some with twin 300HP. I can't imagine everyone is running these boats uninsured. Mine is a '96. There is no coast guard plate in the boat that I can find.

Can someone please provide some documentation, etc that I can give to the insurance company to prove that the Liberator 21 is rated for the Mercury 300XS I have on it?

Do I need to seek another insurer for this boat?

    Thanks in advance!!

Pull out the coast guard regulations, they say any boat over 20ft is unrated, no restrictions and doesn't have to have flotation inside the hull, why do you think you see boat 20'6". Lol, I'm insured with SF too 20' ally with 225, but had a 260 on it, no questions

I don't think the issue is with the coast guard regulations. The insurance companies have a formula that they put the length of the boat and horsepower and calculate approximate top speed and usually if it is over 75mph top speed they don't want to insure it. It does not matter if the boat is rated for 400hp. The speed is the problem.

Good point; so how is anyone insuring any of these go fast boats? Is there a specific company I need to use that specializes in these high performance boats?

    Thanks!!

May be ok; turns out the assistant to my insurance agent put down max HP as 75 when they originally did my app (I had no engine on it then). She got our pontoon (which has a 75hp) mixed up with the Liberator. So all the underwriter did was simply say 300 > 75 max, so declined.

I think we're giving some of the insurance underwriters too much credit thinking they are actually calculating ~ top speeds and refusing coverage based on that. But I could be wrong on that too.

I aslo have SF and spent 6 months of hell with them. It was the same thing when I bought a 150 OptiMax to hang on the back of my 16 Ft, Tahiti. Even thought the tech found the hull was rated for a 150 HP my agent had put the original 125 HP motor in the Max HP block....Under writing wasn't going to amend the policy leaving my with 2 junk motors and a 2011 Opti and no place to put it.

I finally threatened to have 15 policies elsewhere and she got the issues fixed.

Be sitting down when you get the insurance quote, very expensive and if you lie to them and have a problem they won't pay out or cover your ass if you hurt someone...

You guys are starting to scare me. What is 'very expensive'? All I can do at this point is wait to hear back and then, if necessary, shop it around.

You're in a little different league with the twins but I get the point. Also, your rig overall is more costly than my 1996 with single 2013 300XS.
