Newbie here,I was wonder what year lower units are interchangeable with this year motor cause i broke my main shaft in the lower unit down by the pinion gear. thanks steve.

If your changing the whole lower,most any of the 2L 2.4 and 2.5 will fit. Just be sure the shaft length and gear ratio are the same.Your 83 is most likely what's called a preload style,witch is the weakest of the lot.The pinion spline and pinion bearing in that one is also the smallest.

thanks outasite, what years was the 2L 2.4 2.5 made in? i have a friend that can get me a lower unit but he thinks it a 90 model blk max 150

Any v6 from 1976 up as long as it's 2.0 2.4 2.5 through at least 2003

You have the worst one,so anything else is an upgrade.IMO the best fish case, is a big bearing ratchet style.But as Dave said, just grab one and go!!

well the lower unit my friend say he could get wasn't what the guy said so now i'm in need of a lower unit i measured my shaft from the lower bearing to the top of the pin at the end of the shaft and its 25 inches long. does this sound right? forgive me for being a newbie but i do want to learn.
