Evinrude mechanic
Do most Evinrude mechanics know how to work on and Diagnose 1990 Evinrude v6 looper.
Or is 1990 to old for most mechanics?
just need boat to be gone through and diagnose a ignition (Stator, rectifier etc.)
Fuel, timing etc..
motir seems to run great at high speed but very doggy at low speed and poof poof poof as I'm ideling through no wake zone it starts easy even when cold runs fast 66mpr GPS at 5800 rpm only issue is low idle and hole shots seem tough

You should be ok with that engine. Most work on these carb engines. Sounds like you need to have the carbs cleaned. (idle circuits for sure.) The ones that are "old" are the early 70's engines with the electric shift gearcases, as well as the old belt-driven distributor V4's from the 60's.

Carbs are clean I rebuilt them. When took apart they were spotless. Cleaned every hole orifice, new floats adjusted to spec, new gaskets. Boat runs great just runs rough at idle. Bought a new idle dwell adjuster. Mine was broke. All new fuel lines from tank to carbs. New fuel pump. Disconnected VRO mixing 50:1 new fuel check valves at tank.
I'm at the point where I need to bring to a mechanic.
First mechanic I talked to was telling me to adjust the needles on carb this carb has jets. So that's what makes me wonder. I would think a mechanic would know these motors have jets not carbs. Also all cylinders checked at 92 comp each cylinder which on loopers is supposed to be great
Most ppl I talk to said go to scream and fly they have knowledgable people
Thanks for reply

Not sure who is good in that area, go to evinrude.com and look for a dealer in your area that has a certified tech.

No.
Most Evinrude mechanics are unable to diagnose an engine and will just replace parts at random.
You need to find someone competent or diagnose the engine yourself. It seems like you have some knowledge of engines already, so you should probably continue to trouble shoot using the insights of people on this board.
It is not very difficult if you do it in a structured way.Markus' Performance Boating Links:

So after considering the coast of a mechanic to work on my boat. I have considered buying new stator and power Pak about 650.00 for both. Once installed I know everything is new from fuel lines carb rebuild plugs wires fuel pump thermostats. Really not much else can be bad. I hate chasing parts and the time I spend looking into these things is as costly as a mechanic. I'm guessing stator is bad. Everyone seems to have an opinion of a bad stator and all opinions vary. From one end of the scale to the other end. If after that and boat still runs bad on idle speed I can then take to mechanic and say everything is new or rebuilt. It seems a mechanic wil charge me to make the same guesses I am.
So I've heard a stator can fail in many ways it can test good but still be bad????.
And this is what boggles me. These motors seem pretty basic and I have so much of my time invested I hate to bring to a mechanic to charge me to make guesses also any input?????..

If the engines runs good at speed it is Very unlikely you have a bad stator or powerpack. Stators are easy to test with the right equipment, you can also look to see if the black charge coils are leaking. If the coils are leaking it won't be long before it fails. If powerpack has spark on all 6 thats not your issue. I would verify you dont have any loose magnets on your flywheel, you can see them from the bottom. Like I mentioned in another post what you are having issue with sounds like a lean sneeze due to sync/link or the air bleeds were installed in the wrong part of the carb (idle and mid reversed). A decent tech should be able to run it, test a couple things and not be guessing.

Ok Racer, I have an appointment to bring it in to a local shop. I would love to know this motor better.
The boat runs great high speed. Most people would just run it as is I'm a perfectionist when it comes to good running motors, once I get her tip top I wanna do some more work to gettting more HP I have read a lot about these motors are you familiar with or know about them I wanna get some info I'd like to see 300 hp out of this motor.
